In order to deviate from the current thread I will let you know I like your build. I don't think there is any issue with your SSD mounting. There are slots to place parts right? It looks clean to me. Nice work!

People don't get it. A 160 GB OS drive at 14.95 is what makes sense. And then the 500 GB at 44.99, You have to search for a 60 GB or 120 GB SSD at that price and then have no room for any games. Both work for your son's needs. Nice work.

Don't worry about the negative comments. You did what you needed to to get in where you wanted. You are right in my opinion that 16 GB should be standard. The board is a good choice for an upgrade path. And ssd's prices are coming down and eventually gpus will.

Probably because they picked it up for less than the i5-7600 that is currently at $209.99. The K runs at 3.8 GHz vs 3.5 GHz non k. It gives options for the future too with a simple MB swap.

Nice build. I have been thinking of a HTPC myself and your choices are great. I also like your ideas for next steps. I have looked at the 1030 for a HTPC build also and a tuner for PVR is what I would like also. I've planned much of the same for my HTPC build.

I moved one over today and it seems to have improved my memory benchmarks, so thanks for that! Are you running 4.5 GHz air cooled? I don't know if I want to push mine much further with just air cooling, but the temps seem pretty low at 4 GHz.

You know, I wondered about the ram slots myself. I thought it was odd the coloring was different. I looked in the manual and didn't have any information on running at ddr, so I figured it would work in any orientation. I will switch them when I get some time. I had my son put on the fan so he could learn. I must have pointed to the wrong side. I have since moved it to the top.

My mobo is limited by DDR3 1866 MHz ram. I should have gotten a better mobo looking back, but it was so cheap compared to what I have spent on some miniITX for mobile ir7s recently I didn't care.
