Thanks for the history lesson, but no scientist that deals with climate fails to grasp the natural cycle our planet goes through. This is the very data they leverage off to point out there's a problem. There is consensus, every ligitimate source has consensus. Basically, they're saying we're doing it, and we need to change what we're doing or there will be consequences that we don't have data for since it's so far outside the realms of said history.

It is today's version of Tobacco being linked to cancer. It was once the tobacco industry vs. the science - now it's another invested party doing anything it can to survive and make money in an otherwise fiscally hostile environment. The same process, same tactics, different generation.

Hey man!

"Is anything I should do when putting this thing together?"

  • Actually read the mobo manual, things like RAM locations and other little things you would otherwise overlook. Lame and boring but worth it, especially with troubleshooting.
  • Have a clean area that's static free, (how far you go with this is up to you - the best course of action is to ground yourself with an anti-static strap - google this to see the raging debate, but ESD is real).
  • Make sure you firmly seat your power cables, RAM and GPU, it's a decent push and a satisfying click for RAM, and to a lesser extent the GPU. Most hardware issues on new builds start here.
  • Give yourself time and permission to try different setups. Don't rush

"Anything I need to to do when I first boot it up"

  • Check everything is present in the BIOS and set boot order.
  • Then it's just OS and drivers.
  • Set XMP and other performance settings later when you know you have a good base to boot from. Advance one setting at a time and if you have issues, dial it back... Or click auto everything, claim you have the ultimate solid OC and never look back, up to you. ha

  • Take your time
  • Do as many mini tear downs as needed to build it right.
  • I use cables ties after I've hand teased all the wiring where it needs to go.

Have fun with it, or don't. It doesn't matter that much. I've just punched it in the gaps before and so long as it's not blocking airflow, that's fine too really.

My year 8 maths teacher.. Mr Burr. A really smart guy, likeable and was an all round good dude that went out of his was to actually teach people. I of course, was a **** head year 8 maths student who was disruptive, lazy and would rather be doing anything else than learning.

On a particularly rowdy day, he pulled me aside, put on a really sturn face and queitly told me that I was a failure, and that my ’she'll be right attitude will get me no where in life’.. and that was it, left me in the hall.

I’m still reeling all these years later.

Vagabond is just clearly frustrated more than anything. He needs to rest on the plains of Sane Builds, a land where people think out their builds and research with gusto and dedication before posting random, mindless garbage. May he sleep well and bring us all sunshine and ecc rainbows (hue+ pun intended )..

Super micro is a good place to start for a proper server build. You need to sus out your requirements in terms of data throughput, storage space and stability. Then you can plan a build to meet them. We could just shoot you a $4k build but you may either hate the result or have wasted cash that you could of spent elsewhere.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "how to stop severe procrastination?"

My problem is starting, and stopping brings about the need to start again. Once I break, I'm done, screw it. Distractions+

For something like work or a project, once I get going, I'm a freight train of productivity. I don't get off that fully steaming train until I get to my destination - even if that means staying back and pulling big hours. I also work better under pressure since that's a great motivator. I play mind games and find a way pressure myself on little things like getting my washing done or starting a project. Larger jobs have their own stresses and pressures, so that's a little easier. ha

"Better not try to control anything then, it'd pointless because bad people!" - said no government ever.

How is it about cars now? Saying that we should do nothing because: cars, it's just deflection. Modify what you can control, again, there is no magic bullet.

Can't blame inaction on money, that's not the question - that's part of a solution that would have to be teased out in the back end. Making a decision on what to do about this issue is the first step. You either do something (possibly a multifaceted solution with long term goals of cultural change)... Or do nothing, and we do it all again at the next mass shooting.

I scoff at that last statement, and would counter with - do you honestly believe the population will overthrow the US government (and it's military) with small arms? Do you see this USA doomsday scenario actually happening?

You're assuming that a ban is being suggested as a magic bullet.. (pardon the pun)...
What if it's not? You cannot modify a culture over night, but would it not be a step in the direction of change?

Picking your next build is an adventure! Take your time and don't stress on the little points. Have fun with it! :) This is what I'd build for me - the main storage might be small for some, but there's plenty of room for expansion later. Hell, If you can spot the extra cash. look at the 500GB option.

I don't know much about the 3200Mhz issue but the OEM validated list is the safe bet, although it's not the final say on what you can and can't use. It's just a guaranteed tried and proven list of Parts that the OEM of the mobo supports. This is not an exclusive list, to do that would be far too lengthy and costly.

You can use different brands with minimal fuss and so long as you're within the specs of the mobo, you'll be fine for the most part. No OEM promises though.
