Good job keeping it under $1k. That case is proper. I will pick one of these up and put it aside.

Maybe later add a mechanical 1tb drive for $50 for course work/ back up purposes -- in case the SSD crashes or you get hit with ransom ware.

Overall swell and love the dog - those eyes!

EDIT:::: Inwin has really nice cases, just checked the site....super congrats again on this build.

@dvolkens

Yup... Another good one....I just ordered the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX Computer Case - Tempered Glass Edition, Galaxy Silver today....Arriving Friday..... I hope my motherboard will fit. I am getting the Asus X99-DELUXE/U3.1 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard.

I am new to building. Is there a guide that shows me how to size things out when choosing a case. I am hoping not to have buyers remorse.

Side note:: temps at idle seem a bit hot...maybe another fan is needed? Anyone else have ideas.

I am a Noob and still working on my first build, but a nearly 15% increase in CPU performance with a reduction of temperatures on the CPU by "at least 18 degrees" is pretty awesome to me.

Ninja_Mystic:

This is a solid build. Congrats.

4.6GHz that is crazy.

I am also looking into doing a build and thought about water cooling, but have no expertise. If you have the time to post photos of before and after of the mounting process that would be awesome. Or if you have a video or know of a video step by step an article, anything.

I started a thread about my build earlier today:

  1. Yeah, i was thinking RAID would complicate things since the drives are meant to mirror one another. So yeah, my plan was to the two SSDs in the way you described. One for OS and Programs and the other for scratch disk and the mechanical drives for buck storage.

  2. As far as windows, I have always just used pro instead of home.. No particular reasons. I will look further into changing this option.

  3. I see you added a line items for cable mod and the NZXT Hue+ LED Controller also the eliminated some ram. For HD video this would seem like enough, but for HD and higher, later on, more ram, if needed can be added I guess.

Thank you,

Chillsabre:

Also, how do you like the NZXT Phantom 530 case?

I selected the same one, but in white.

Athenriel:

  1. I plan on transitioning to 4k video after I cut my chops on regular HD. Hence the reason for the strong GPU and CPU. Obviously, I will need larger HDDs and 4k monitors monitors, but the AOCs are what I have right now.

  2. Yes I plan on doing RAID to the HDDs. Is my set up optimal for such?

  3. Interesting performance differences. I am going to overclock the CPU, hopefully to 4 GHz, but most likely 3.80 GHz. Does this change the analysis?

  4. No I will not be desoldering cables, but just want neat sleeves or ties that I can do myself.

  5. Thanks for the links, I am checking those out now.

Thanks,

OTD 2016

I will look into the "4x8Gb kit of RAM over a 2x16GB" set up. Since I will have a bunch of unused slots with the 2x16GB kit. Thank you.

I saw the X99 Extreme..., but it did not have USB 3.1. Also I used this site to compare boards::: http://www.specout.com/ http://motherboards.specout.com/

VERY useful.

Any specifics on the STRIXX vs Turbo swap?
