Comment reply on PatarIndustries's Completed Build: Bringin' Sandy Back

I love Sandy/Ivy bridge. I actually got a really nice deal/trade for an i7-3700 to upgrade from my FX-8320.

Enjoy!

I second this. Although those FX seires chips are good bang for your buck just because of the sheer amount of cores, i7 and i5 chips will out perform them in most tasks.

Very nice. I don't think 8GB of RAM is overkill at all. That allows for having plenty of tabs open which will be super nice for him, I bet.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Upgrade from an FX-8320 to an i7-3770K? Or just to Ryzen?"

  • 1 point

I have definitely noticed the 8320's lackluster performance in games. I"m just wondering if there will be a noticeable performance upgrade from an 8320 to a 3770k. I understand it's not a great upgrade path but I think by the time I want another upgrade, I might want to opt for a complete system overhaul.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Upgrade from an FX-8320 to an i7-3770K? Or just to Ryzen?"

If I get a 3770k, I'm DEFINITELY going to overclock. I'm all for overclocking to get a little extra life out of CPUs.

Wow, the 3770k is equivalent to a Ryzen 1500X? That's pretty crazy...

Dual 1080Tis are going to vastly out perform the Titan XP. A single 1080ti, stock clock, get's reasonably close.

Also, Titans only come with nVidia's blower style cooler which isn't going to give you as good temps.

EDIT: He also said something about render times. Those kind of use cases benefit from multiple GPUs most of the time.

Very clean build. Great work!

Why did you decide to go with a fan on the heatsink but run the 1080 underwater? Just curious. I would think an air cooled card would be quieter, especially when idle.

You can use any old HDD to put an OS on. What I would reccomend doing is upgrading to an SSD and using that old HDD as a secondary drive. Put all of your main core programs and maybe a couple games on maybe a 250GB SSD along with your OS. Then, set your Steam Library or (or whatever you use) to the HDD.

Very nice budget build, regardless! Nice work!

I know what you mean about the Steam Controller. It is pretty weird. I've actually switched to an Xbox One controller recently, but I love using the paddles on the back when I can.

Rookie Mistake #3: wait, how am I even supposed to know there’s some obscure smart tool hidden in a MSI forum?

My Samsung is clean now. Yay. And then it crashes. Blue Screen with “bad_system_config_info”. Why is my life so sh***y.

I've never laughed so hard at a PCPartPicker post in my life. Excellent description, excellent pictures, excellent setup, excellent build, just awesome.
