See, I always thought that it looked like it's wide enough to fit a vertical-oriented fan! Just can't be a super tall Evo or something lol. Thanks. I really wasn't wanting to put a water cooler in if I didn't have to.
Great build! I love it just neatly tucked away on the shelf :)
I had forgotten about this case when starting to piece together my Zen2 build for next year. But once I rediscovered it I jumped it to the front of the list!
Can anyone comment on this Noctua cooler on a 2nd or 3rd gen Ryzen? 95W CPU. PartPicker says that upright coolers aren't compatible with the 240 Case :/
If you get your CPU to 4.2Ghz and keep it stable, i'd love to know how! Lol. I have the same one and just bumped up the core to like 210 mhz - so it tops out at about 3.6ghz with 18x multiplier :P
But I was debating between putting a custom design on this or the white case. Thanks for the pictures, cause it confirmed the white case ;) Not that this is bad! I just prefer the white.
As far as suggestions; pick up the 16gb Ram kit. They're going on sale on Newegg left and right, and will only get better over Thanksgiving ;D
So this case can fit a 140mm fan? Interesting. I had trouble finding the exact specs for the rear fan, and what I found said 120mm. I want to get the white version with the blue led and put an orange fan on the back and make a Portal cube, with the Aperture logo painted on the front grill and all ;)
Interesting. My Premiere/Encoder render times on my build are 1/3rd of what they were on my old HP and I only have 16gb ram in this. My meter is pretty maxed out when I do, but I'm still able to do other stuff - Chrome, iTunes, Bridge - while exporting.
But that's part of the reason my next build is gonna have 32gb. Future-proof for getting into bigger Premiere Pro projects ;)
Nice! Actually that's not a bad piece of info to know. So thanks for that! lol. But I'd say that if it's not sitting at that high a speed for very long that it's probably not terrible if you have the Hardware Acceleration on - especially if your system can handle it. Doesn't seem like a super taxing feature. Just my thought though :)
I tried taking an old computer very similar to this one from a now former job, hoping to really deck it out. At the time I couldn't find good enough parts to make it as modern as I wanted, so I sold it for like $10. But I love taking old towers and turning them into sleeper machines ;) e.g, old tower with super-advanced parts.
Good to know that it's a common AMD970 problem. I thought I was melting my system trying to get my 8320E to it's natural turbo-clock. It really threw a fit, even with the OC Genie xP
But that also makes me feel a bit better about being locked in to Intel if I want to build a cube w/mATX.
That's gotta be the most creative setup I've seen in a long time! I'd be super paranoid about dust [and cat hair for me], but very nicely done!
On a similar note, I've had an idea to build a glass-top table and have all my components on a second layer underneath - essentially building my computer into the desk :D
thanks! It was a massive headache, but it runs really well and really quiet :) and next time I'm avoiding the whole SSD thing all together. It's such a pain to reduce Windows so it fits on the 60gb and keep close tracks on what all is installing to the OS drive so that it doesn't fill up and suddenly run slow.
Don't get me started on 4k, lol. Especially as a film major! Ugh....
As far as the RAM goes, it doesn't really matter, I was just curious. Wasn't looking to start a debate, even though I see the point you're trying to make that it's just another "new standard" gimmick - like 1080P was a few years ago. Now you see TV's in the upper 20's in size only using 720p, when before it used to be even an 18" had to be Full-HD.
Like the OP said, he's not using over 60%. That's perfectly logical that you would save money and not get the 16gb then, and really was the only answer I needed. I'll leave the rest of the debate for another day so I can clock out and go home :P
[Eschaton, you can PM me if you really would like to continue the discussion.]
To be fair, I didn't actually suggest they should have 16 - so no need to get so defensive. It was a genuine curiosity why more builds listed aren't going with 16gb when it's really not a ton more if you look hard enough.
Second; why does it matter what the system was doing when it maxed out on memory? There's more to a computer's range than just games or Office.
So, let's review:
1. Was a question - not "suggesting they should have this".
2. Was often enough to make me consider the bumped specs if I'm going to put the time and money into a new machine.
3. One example of a program does not limit me to that type of work. i.e, I still play games. Often while having iTunes and/or Chrome open - both of which are memory hogs.
My HP has 8 [down from 10] and I ran out of memory on 2 separate attempts to export a video from Premiere Pro. It wasn't even a feature-length movie, either - just something short. typically it does just fine exporting a series of videos from the Media Encoder, but for some reason this time it didn't like the direct export from Premiere. I had let it run overnight too, so nothing else was running and I had made sure to close down everything [except AVG and the like].
Fair enough. But I still feel like the extra $30 or so is worth the "future-proof". Plus if you have a tight system you wouldn't have to potentially take the CPU cooler off to put in new ram.
That's a beastly little box! lol. I wanted to make mine small like this, but couldn't find anything within my budget. What I don't get is, that in a lot of sick build like this, people only put 8gb of Ram. Why?
Awesome specs! Plus there, s some stuff similar to what I want to put in mine, lol. The only thing I can never understand is why people only do 8gb of ram in big builds like this [and other higher-end ones].
