I already figured that was the """"""quick and easy""""" option, but I'd really rather not have to deal with cable managing my PSU again.

My best advice is to COMPLETELY mess it up. Like to the point where people are still dealing with the fallout twenty or so years after you retire. When confronted, just fall back on the "it wasn't my job in the first place" excuse. If that seems like a horrible idea only someone with no experience with bureaucracy outside of Dilbert cartoons could've come up with, well, you'd be absolutely correct.

Actually hold on just a sec. What's up with Razer's Chroma software? I'm seeing a bunch of articles claiming it can sync with basically all brands, including EVGA, ASRock, and Phanteks. Their website doesn't include EVGA in the list, though, so idk. Thoughts?

Got the 1080 for ~$300 used, and I can't really afford a different card, so I guess I'll just have to deal. On a similar note, is Alienware just as idiotic with their RGB sync? I've got a mouse from them, and it'd be nice if I could, y'know, make the stuff work together. I'm willing to bet no, but it's always a good idea to check.

I already knew I wouldn't be able to SLI a 1080 with newer GPUs (pretty sure you can't use older ones with it either). The CPU cooler thing will be worth considering in the future, though. By which I mean I've already bought the 212.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Last minute "am I being dumb here?" check."

I'm focusing on current performance and keeping upgrade options open, so just having SLI-capable hardware is preferable. I'm just wanting to take the issues that my laptop has (unable to be upgraded, low SSD space, overheating constantly) COMPLETELY out of the question.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Really, really, really dumb cooling idea"

  • 1 point

Well, if the main problem is surface area, then what if you had something like this? Basically an extended socket, with the CPU contained within a waterproof covering. You have all the I/O stuff going through one main pathway, and water flows around the socket. This'd result in a much higher available surface area than the current system, without any downsides that I can see. Of course, I'm not an expert in this stuff.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Really, really, really dumb cooling idea"

I wasn't thinking about what it'd take to put it together, but how well the finished product would work. Water has a very high specific heat, so It'd seem like this kind of thing would be incredibly effective. But then again, I haven't done any research on water cooling.

Well, if you're gonna go up to an RTX card, you can probably just swap out the 1070 for whichever card you're going with. The processor apparently doesn't bottleneck too bad with a 2080 Ti, and the MOBO looks (to my extremely untrained eye) like a valid choice for a modern build.

Those don't include stuff like VR sets, game controllers (standard gamepads and stuff like flight sticks or racing wheels), everything mentioned in the main post, or even drawing tablets. There's a multitude of other peripherals that aren't included that probably should be. Even dummy plugs would be a valuable addition. I mean sure, you could make the case that these things are so widespread that the addition of a "mousepad" category would lead to just stupid amounts of new addition requests. And you'd probably be right.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Getting some more opinions on my next build -REDUX-"

It's not a question of whether I need a 2080 Ti, it's a question of whether it can take one. My main concern is "Can I shove the newest cards into it without any of the other parts raising a fit?" Admittedly, I'm not really going to make use of that for a while, but still.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Getting some more opinions on my next build -REDUX-"

  • 1 point

I would, except that I can't afford an i9 9900K or an RTX 2080 Ti. Or even another 1080. As such, I'm going with the option that would allow for an immediate addition of those to the build, without spending more money replacing parts that can't handle the upgrade.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Getting some more opinions on my next build -REDUX-"

  • 1 point

Maybe I'm just being whiny, but the 7 2700X is going to bottleneck like crazy once I (eventually) get a fancy new card, and the i5-9400F (or 9600K), well... Aren't. The 5 2600 would also work better for my hypothetical purposes though. ...Okay, y'know what? I'm just gonna put 2 lists together, and decide in a month. That is the minimum amount of time I've got to decide on everything, after all. Probably should've mentioned that in the main post.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Getting some more opinions on my next build -REDUX-"

  • 1 point

Again, thanks for the input, but I'm literally trying for something I can immediately start upgrading past what I've got, without spending money replacing something that couldn't handle said upgrade. Such as putting in more, faster RAM, somehow reaching a point where I need all 8 of those SATA cables, or adding another 1080. Look, I may not have that second 1080 yet (or any of those other parts), but that doesn't mean it's never gonna happen. I'd rather the MOBO be something I can just keep and never have to worry about upgrading. Also, I read "Since you've got a locked chip, there's no need to go all out on the motherboard" as "put in an unlocked chip to justify the fancy motherboard."

Y'know the header at the top of the part list? Next to the "Markup" label, there's a button with the website's logo on it. Clicking that will show you the text you need to copy to put it into the forum post. here's a link to a couple pics I took to demonstrate. Probably didn't need them, but still.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Getting some more opinions on my next build"

Perhaps I should explain what I'm going for specifically. The MOBO and PSU are going to get replaced for better ones later on, when I can afford to do so. These just need to be as cheap as possible while still bearing at least some semblance of quality, and working with the rest of the parts. Also you forgot WiFi.
