Comment reply on Forum Topic "390X or 980ti for 1440p?"

  • 2 points

The 980ti outperforms the 390x by a lot. The 390x is more comparable to the gtx 980. So pretty much if you can spend the money on the 980ti definitely get that. If you want to save a little bit get a 390x or a r9 fury.

Yep. I was able to run CS:GO at 1440p with intel integrated graphics and still get 80+ frames. Its not that intensive. (don't ask why I did)

If your sold on the 34" definitely get that then especially if it has the features you want. Whether or not your 780 can run 2 ultra wides it depends on what resolution. 2 1440p monitors it will definitely struggle as it would be similar to running 4k; at least in games I'm not familiar with most content creation programs so I'm unsure about that.

Hey there! Honestly I think you may miss having two monitors. Especially if you multitask on them. Ultra wide's are nice, I have a 1440p Ultra wide, but in my opinion I think they really shine when you do a multi monitor set up with them. Is it a possibility to go with 2 of the 29" ultra wides? I'd say if you can get enough money for 2 of them, but only buy 1. If you find you miss having 2 then purchase another.

Yes they will! http://www.eteknix.com/amd-gcn-gpus-directx-12-ready/

Edit: The 290x had more stream processors and higher clock speed.

That's a solid PSU you should be just fine running a 290.

Which EVGA 550w do you have? A 550w should be enough though as long as you don't overclock.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Why do the R9 2xx perform better than the R9 3xx?"

Because the 380 is a refresh of the 285. not the 290x. That's kinda like asking why a gtx 960 is worse than a 780ti. Newer doesn't mean its better than everything before it.

Edit: In fact as long as you have a power supply that can handle a 290x and a good CPU you should get the 290x as long as its a reasonable price.

I'd say wait at least a month. There are still some bugs with it, so give Microsoft time to fix them. Also some programs are not very happy running on windows 10. I had major problems with GTA V and 3D Max 2016 keeps crashing on me.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "So what's the deal with backplates?"

Yeah I've read that it makes the PCB more rigid and on Newegg the Sapphire team addressed that the Tri-x 390x did not need a backplate because their PCB is already rigid so the backplate isn't needed.

Thanks for your Service Sir!

I'm Ksongs! I'm a 19 year old college student, I don't have it as hard as Mr. Pants though, originally from Georgia now I live in California. I'm a Bio/Chem major and working toward becoming a doctor. I had know about this site for a while since around 2012/2013 because my cousin showed me the site, but I wasn't very active. Around 2014 I started really wanting to build my own PC Since I had gotten into PC gaming, but it was on an awful Prebuilt that I had gotten, So I started hanging around the site and learning about parts. Now here I am I built my first PC last year with a starting budget of $450 and I've been continuously upgrading ever since with my recent purchase being a 390x.

If you can afford it intel i5 4690k is currently the best option. Atleast from a gaming perspective. Beats out all of AMD's current CPU line up and is cheaper than the I7 which games hardly benefit from.

I'm not sure if you wanted your mouse and keyboard to match, so I did it anyways, but id recommend the Logitech G502 https://pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-mouse-910004074 Its a very popular mouse and is considered on of the best and the Logitech g510s keyboard https://pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-keyboard-920004967

Here are reviews if you want them.

G502 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKzDYXfTvUI

G510 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4HpLhM5CAk

Its about $116 together.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "CPU Temp Help!!!"

  • 1 point

Well I'd suggest you try gaming first and seeing what your temps are. There's a big difference between gaming and prime 95. Gaming hardly ever puts 100% load. On my cpu I think I saw GTA V put about 35% load while prime 95 puts 100% load. Its most likely while gaming or doing anything else your temps wont jump above 65 degrees. If you want to buy a cooler to feel safe I'd recommend the cryorig H7 its cheap and it works well, but don't rush in to buy something you might not need.

Actually I take it back, sorry. If you look at builds that have used it the top build by lavins uses a 780 lightning which is almost the same length as that 290. the 780 is 0.12 inches shorter than the 290 you linked. So it might be possible.

If you scroll down it tells you on the left hand side 10.04" (255mm) With Drive Cages 11.22" (285mm) Without Drive Cages, so id guess you couldn't.

This belongs In the parts list opinions wanted section. As for your parts list. I would get 8gbs of ram that's all you need if your gaming. Also I'd get the r9 380 which out performs the 960. Also if you can I would change the psu to an evga g2 or gs series power supply or an xfx Ts or xtr which are better.

980ti sli would be great for 1440p at 144hz, a bit expensive though. The general rule is you shouldn't sli lower end cards to try and achieve performance of a higher end card. You should always buy a better single card. However when you already have a top tier card like the 980ti and your aim is to play at higher resolutions then sli is recommended and sometimes necessary. If you want to find some middle ground I'd still recommend a 1440p, but at 60hz which a single 980ti can achieve. Of course if you want that 144hz refresh rate and g sync the 1080p monitor will be cheaper and the way to go.

No worries! I think it really comes down to if you have a PC that can handle the ROG swift. You don't want to spend $700 if your PC can't hit that 144 fps mark at 1440p. If you can do that I definitely recommend the swift since since 1440p looks absolutely gorgeous.
