Forum Topic "390X or 980ti for 1440p?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 2 points 45 months ago

The 980ti outperforms the 390x by a lot. The 390x is more comparable to the gtx 980. So pretty much if you can spend the money on the 980ti definitely get that. If you want to save a little bit get a 390x or a r9 fury.

No problem!

Forum Topic "Will x2 Gtx 970s and an Intel 5930k processor play CS: GO at 4k effectively?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Yep. I was able to run CS:GO at 1440p with intel integrated graphics and still get 80+ frames. Its not that intensive. (don't ask why I did)

Forum Topic "Opinions on 21:9"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

If your sold on the 34" definitely get that then especially if it has the features you want. Whether or not your 780 can run 2 ultra wides it depends on what resolution. 2 1440p monitors it will definitely struggle as it would be similar to running 4k; at least in games I'm not familiar with most content creation programs so I'm unsure about that.

Forum Topic "Opinions on 21:9"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Hey there! Honestly I think you may miss having two monitors. Especially if you multitask on them. Ultra wide's are nice, I have a 1440p Ultra wide, but in my opinion I think they really shine when you do a multi monitor set up with them. Is it a possibility to go with 2 of the 29" ultra wides? I'd say if you can get enough money for 2 of them, but only buy 1. If you find you miss having 2 then purchase another.

Forum Topic "Why do the R9 2xx perform better than the R9 3xx?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Yes they will! http://www.eteknix.com/amd-gcn-gpus-directx-12-ready/

Edit: The 290x had more stream processors and higher clock speed.

Forum Topic "Why do the R9 2xx perform better than the R9 3xx?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

That's a solid PSU you should be just fine running a 290.

Forum Topic "Why do the R9 2xx perform better than the R9 3xx?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Which EVGA 550w do you have? A 550w should be enough though as long as you don't overclock.

Forum Topic "Why do the R9 2xx perform better than the R9 3xx?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 2 points 45 months ago

Because the 380 is a refresh of the 285. not the 290x. That's kinda like asking why a gtx 960 is worse than a 780ti. Newer doesn't mean its better than everything before it.

Edit: In fact as long as you have a power supply that can handle a 290x and a good CPU you should get the 290x as long as its a reasonable price.

I'd say wait at least a month. There are still some bugs with it, so give Microsoft time to fix them. Also some programs are not very happy running on windows 10. I had major problems with GTA V and 3D Max 2016 keeps crashing on me.

Hey FH100 while were on the topic I've seen around that Nvidia current cards support DX12.1 while AMDs current line up only support DX12 and I've seen the argument made that NVIDIA has better DX12 support since it supports 12.1. Could you possibly explain that? I haven't really looked into it.

Forum Topic "So what's the deal with backplates?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Yeah I've read that it makes the PCB more rigid and on Newegg the Sapphire team addressed that the Tri-x 390x did not need a backplate because their PCB is already rigid so the backplate isn't needed.

Forum Topic "So what's the deal with backplates?"

I would also like to add that they also prevent GPU sag at least from what I've heard.

There will always be something better coming out. So don't get caught up in getting the newest thing (unless you can afford it)as for your main question sorry, but someone more knowledgeable will have to help you with that.

Edit: https://pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic/99691-skylake-i7-6700k-review this may help you though.

Thanks for your Service Sir!

I'm Ksongs! I'm a 19 year old college student, I don't have it as hard as Mr. Pants though, originally from Georgia now I live in California. I'm a Bio/Chem major and working toward becoming a doctor. I had know about this site for a while since around 2012/2013 because my cousin showed me the site, but I wasn't very active. Around 2014 I started really wanting to build my own PC Since I had gotten into PC gaming, but it was on an awful Prebuilt that I had gotten, So I started hanging around the site and learning about parts. Now here I am I built my first PC last year with a starting budget of $450 and I've been continuously upgrading ever since with my recent purchase being a 390x.

What's your total budget? Its a little hard to give you a solid recommendation if I don't know how much your willing to spend haha.

Forum Topic "High end amd cpu or mid to high end intel cpu?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

If you can afford it intel i5 4690k is currently the best option. Atleast from a gaming perspective. Beats out all of AMD's current CPU line up and is cheaper than the I7 which games hardly benefit from.

Forum Topic "What's the best keyboard and mouse for the best price?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

I'm not sure if you wanted your mouse and keyboard to match, so I did it anyways, but id recommend the Logitech G502 https://pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-mouse-910004074 Its a very popular mouse and is considered on of the best and the Logitech g510s keyboard https://pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-keyboard-920004967

Here are reviews if you want them.

G502 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKzDYXfTvUI

G510 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4HpLhM5CAk

Its about $116 together.

Forum Topic "CPU Temp Help!!!"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Well I'd suggest you try gaming first and seeing what your temps are. There's a big difference between gaming and prime 95. Gaming hardly ever puts 100% load. On my cpu I think I saw GTA V put about 35% load while prime 95 puts 100% load. Its most likely while gaming or doing anything else your temps wont jump above 65 degrees. If you want to buy a cooler to feel safe I'd recommend the cryorig H7 its cheap and it works well, but don't rush in to buy something you might not need.

Forum Topic "What's the best keyboard and mouse for the best price?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

What's your budget? There are plenty of stuff, but I don't want to suggest a $110 keyboard and $60 mouse if that's not in your budget range.

The 390. It outperforms the 970.

But the BX100 is a lower price and is the best at that price.

Forum Topic "What can i do with 2 amd video cards without crossfire"

You can only run one at a time, so I'd take out the 7770 and if you want sell it or get a nice display rack and put it on a shelf or something.

Forum Topic "What is the longest GPU you have gotten to fit in a Thermaltake Core V1?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

Actually I take it back, sorry. If you look at builds that have used it the top build by lavins uses a 780 lightning which is almost the same length as that 290. the 780 is 0.12 inches shorter than the 290 you linked. So it might be possible.

Forum Topic "What is the longest GPU you have gotten to fit in a Thermaltake Core V1?"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

The case is here: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/thermaltake-case-ca1b800s1wn00

If you scroll down it tells you on the left hand side 10.04" (255mm) With Drive Cages 11.22" (285mm) Without Drive Cages, so id guess you couldn't.

Really? i assumed I could download more Ghz :P

I'm more interested in downloading more ram honestly with recent games beginning to use more and more ram I feel its more important than ever to make sure you download some more.

I didn't want anyone to stumble on this and think they could download more ram or ghz haha. Or call me liar :P haha

To be fair we can't really tell you whether or not you should wait unless we know exactly for sure the performance of skylake. We don't know how it performs or the price how can we guarantee it'll be worth the wait.

Forum Topic "I want this to be able to play up to date games, with no issues"

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

This belongs In the parts list opinions wanted section. As for your parts list. I would get 8gbs of ram that's all you need if your gaming. Also I'd get the r9 380 which out performs the 960. Also if you can I would change the psu to an evga g2 or gs series power supply or an xfx Ts or xtr which are better.

Forum Topic "24" vs 27""

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

980ti sli would be great for 1440p at 144hz, a bit expensive though. The general rule is you shouldn't sli lower end cards to try and achieve performance of a higher end card. You should always buy a better single card. However when you already have a top tier card like the 980ti and your aim is to play at higher resolutions then sli is recommended and sometimes necessary. If you want to find some middle ground I'd still recommend a 1440p, but at 60hz which a single 980ti can achieve. Of course if you want that 144hz refresh rate and g sync the 1080p monitor will be cheaper and the way to go.

Forum Topic "24" vs 27""

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

No worries! I think it really comes down to if you have a PC that can handle the ROG swift. You don't want to spend $700 if your PC can't hit that 144 fps mark at 1440p. If you can do that I definitely recommend the swift since since 1440p looks absolutely gorgeous.
