Forum Topic "Budget Mini-ITX Build For Admin"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

That CPU is still really good, but the Chipset and motherboards it requires to run it are not so good (anymore) and even harder to find.

Forum Topic "Msi Mobo No Cmos Cap?"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

10 Minutes? wowzers i usually only do like 30 Seconds and it works fine.

Forum Topic "Fallout 4 able to run it"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

Agree with Chillsabre, the i3 is a very solid CPU and shouldn't hold you back in any games (depending on a few factors) and this way you can get a much better GPU to have a better overall experience.

Also the Z170 Motherboard you chose is a little overkill for that CPU, should check out the new B250 boards.

Forum Topic "FOR HONOR closet beta impressions"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

Am signed up and will give it a go this afternoon once i have downloaded it.

I like being able to play the Beta of a game because it saves me plenty of money XD

Also the game mechanics looked pretty "Meh" from the get go, i dont know why people were so excited for it. Will update my opinion once i have tried it out :)

Thanks for making the time to post this, i was just about to make a thread asking if anyone had played it yet.

Forum Topic "Can my PC run league on Medium or High"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

I don't imagine it would be an issue, even if you have to play on Low settings the experience would still be the same.

Forum Topic "I really need your opinion on this build"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

Yeah i tend to go overkill with my recommendations, this is so that people dont finish their build then go "Huh, i wish i had gotten an SSD/Bigger PSU/More RAM when i first built it"

But what neweragamer recommends is pretty spot on.

Forum Topic "I really need your opinion on this build"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

Yeah gotta agree with this, i tend to go overkill "JUST IN CASE" but the outcome is a machine thats power isn't fully utilized.

Forum Topic "I really need your opinion on this build"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

You may in future need more than 8GB as it seems to be leading that way, although that really depends which applications you use and how many you have open it the same time.

Overhead for PSU is also dependent on what components you have and if you are planning to overclock, PCPP shows like a bare minimum for the current components that you have in your build so (i think) you should have upwards of 150 Watts over their estimate and more for overclocks.

For the SSD just read THIS i guess as there is alot to explain, but they will make things ALOT!!! faster.

Forum Topic "GPU Hitting 91 C"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

Only thing i can think of is either driver issues or a faulty unit, best bet would be contacting NVIDIA about it. (atleast thats what i would do)

Forum Topic "I really need your opinion on this build"

Iceman320 1 Build 2 points 26 months ago

Here is what i recommend:

  • A single 8GB RAM stick so you have the option to upgrade to 16GB down the track
  • A larger PSU for more overhead and a Gold rated unit (which i think should be a minimum unless you really cant afford it)
  • An SSD

I know this puts an extra $100 onto your build but i really recommend these changes and it will definitely be worth the extra $100 (especially having an SSD, TRUST ME!)

You have to put abit of force behind it to get it fully in, also if your CPU power is an 8-pin (4 + 4) then make sure you are using the right 4 pin plug (that all the shapes are the same and line up)

Forum Topic "Games are skipping?"

First thing i would do is download the latest drivers for your GTX 970 and then uninstall the old ones using DDU.

Forum Topic "Best Free to Play Games"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

Keep an eye out on Humble Bundle and Origin for free games :)

But Warframe is great fun, League of Legends (if your into MOBA's), Dirty Bomb is a good FPS.

Pretty much just browse through the steam free store sorted by most popular and see what you can find (make sure to read reviews though)

Forum Topic "New Guy Looking For Good PC Games"

Get Battlefield 4 or 1 over COD as they are just better hands down, but i guess that really depends what your preferences are.

Also a free game to try out is Warframe, very fun game.

I imagine that your CPU got too hot and your motherboard shut down to preserve it frying itself, watch temps carefully when playing and perhaps try running some synthetic benchmarks and stress testing. Your CPU heatsink may not be on properly.

Not sure about that one, WD is a good brand but they only just started releasing SSD's.

THIS is the best out there atm, but i would recommend THIS even though its smaller/less storage you can always add a standard HDD if you want cheap mass storage.

Lego is always a good option, then you can craft and change the statue as you see fit.

The Black HDD tray? yeah rubber fittings can help stop vibration moving through your case :)

Forum Topic "Minor PC case noise?"

I had this happen to me once, i pulled apart my pc looking for something that could be vibrating and causing noise, was looking at putting rubber around my HDD's to stop vibration etc and bluetack between the edges of my case.

Turned out to be a Fallout figurine that i had sitting on top of my case the whole time :/

Should be able to run High-Max settings pretty easily at 60fps in games especially at 900p, that card is roughly comparable to the GTX 1050 ti.

Cut back costs a bit (if you can get the mail in rebates etc) by swapping out RAM, PSU and putting in a smaller SSD.

(just another option really)

EDIT: you may want to try for a B250 Motherboard.

He wants High-Maxed settings so a 1060 will do great. Although i fully support overkill parts as eventually you will need them (although i prefer making mid range/budget oriented builds for price to performance)

Forum Topic "500$ (Canadian) Gaming/Recording"

Iceman320 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

Wow you got some crazy good deals on parts, how did you source some of that stuff for $3? like the PSU etc....

Also what are you wanting recommendations on? because there is no way you could make that better (with new parts) considering the prices you are getting things for.

I mean the GPU is a bit dated but it will still perform nicely and cant be beaten by anything out there (that can be found for $70...)

Forum Topic "First time builder, Help me with a gaming rig that I can grow a bit with won't waste $$$$"

you forgot THIS but aside from that it is a nice part list.

Although an RX 480 or GTX 1060 will easily meet his requirements and he can save some money.

Try this RX 480

Or This GTX 1060
