Wonderful performance from a card this low priced! Tested it out on Monster Hunter World, ran perfectly at 1080p, 144Hz, and all max visual settings. The stock fan parameters however were... not good. They wait until the chip hits 60C before spinning up. This was easily fixed in MSI Afterburner. Now I have a constant low fan speed running at low temps, keeping the card at a consistent 45C while idle. During my Monster Hunter World testing, it peaked at about 65, running from 60-65 on average. This is a stellar temp to have while under heavy load!

It's a common problem for Radeon cards to crash due to bad drivers, but mine has only crashed once, and on a pretty low-load application. We'll see if it happens again!

Works well for me in a cold apartment (low 60's F) and with a 1080p monitor. I will try to remember to come back when I upgrade to 1440p and in the summer when things get hotter. I had to undervolt to get lower temps and quiet fans as I got the Version that came with the XT Bios installed. (I was confused when benchmarking I got AMD readings of over 1900mhz on a card that is supposed to be capped at 1750)

Best info I can give on this is reposting what redditor gastank3 posted about it: "Some peculiarities about this model:

This has dual bios. But both bios are the exact same thing. The only benefit is that it allows you to safely flash an XT bios (you can use either the thicc II bios or the thicc III bios).

Early production runs (ver 2.1) were mistakenly overclocked to stock XT speeds. Normally a 5700 is supposed to be hard locked by the bios to a maximum of 1850mhz. Ver 2.1 cards come factory overclocked to 1960mhz, and are unlocked to 2000mhz. Later production runs (ver 2.2) have the correct bios limitations of 1850mhz.

Minimum pwm % of the fans is 30%. So while the radeon software does not let you lower the fan curve below 10%, as long as it's below 30% it will effectively stop the fans (0db mode). With default curve, the card will idle at ~50C and the fans won't turn on until ~60C. If instead you set up a custom curve with the lowest speed at 31%, the card idles at 30C @ 600rpm.

Unknown if the cooler has the same steel plates over the vram like the pre-revision thicc II cooler (which was later corrected to have copper plates over the vram). However, this is only an issue if you flash the XT bios and overclock the memory to max. The core GPU chip cooling has no issue." https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/esp3fg/gpu_xfx_radeon_rx_5700_dd_ultra_310_330_20_fs_w/ffbdt3g/?context=3

Idle is hot because fans don’t turn on until it starts to get hot. But looks great for a stealth build

Much regret not getting an XT, but this card can still take a healthy overclock and stay cool while at it

    I love this card.

I've been playing with it, overclocking. It has an artificial core clock limit of 1850mhz but you can actually get past that by flashing the bios. (The fans will get the job done if you need them to work too. At 100%, which you'll never need, but still, at 100% they practically slide the case across the floor.) Got my card up to 2100mhz plus a slight mem clock OC... got a 9,425 pure graphics score in 3DMark Time Spy... which combined with my CPU score got a total score "Better than 86% of all results." With the right fan curve, the fans stay low without being too loud and the card never gets above 75 degrees even with the OC. I highly recommend this card. You will not find anything better for $299.

    Update:

After flashing to 2100mhz it can do anything without crashes -- except Youtube... So I set it to 2000mhz and it can handle Youtube again, I just know I've got more if I need it... Still the best card you can get for $299.

from completed build For my sister

Best value in the entire build. It came factory overclocked which was great so I never had to flash it. My one complaint is that it makes a very weird/loud noise at times. But even with that problem, I would still buy it again (granted it doesn't lead to long term damage)
