Enthusiast Intel Gaming/Streaming Build

Description

CPU

At this budget, we're running the Intel Coffee Lake Refresh i5-9600K. The 9600K features 6 cores and will perform exceptionally well with all your gaming needs. Since it is overclockable and does not include a stock cooler, the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 has been added to the list. A cooler of this stature will allow a high overclock without overheating or becoming noisy.

Note: If you'd prefer to consider a similar build, but instead using an AMD Ryzen processor, be sure to check out our Enthusiast AMD Gaming Build Guide.

Motherboard

We're using a parametric filter to constantly select the best-priced motherboard while meeting selected criteria. In this case, we are filtering for Z390 chipsets for its enabled overclocking and to avoid potential BIOS update issues. The parametric filter also checks for 4 DDR4 DIMM slots for future expansion. The compatibility engine will filter out anything not compatible with the build. The motherboards are also capable of using the CPU's integrated GPU, in case you need to RMA your GPU or are waiting for a sale or upgrade.

Memory

Memory needs are slowly but constantly increasing, and we want to stay ahead of the curve. To this end we're using a parametric filter to choose a 16GB kit of memory within Intel's recommended specifications at the best price. The filter will only select 2x8GB kits, allowing us to leave room for extra DIMMs for future expansion.

Storage

We're use parametric filters to incorporate an SSD with at least 500GB of space. We have also added a parametric filter for a 3TB mechanical drive for mass storage, such as extra games and videos. Everyone's storage requirements differ, so feel free to add or remove capacity as needed.

GPU

For our GPU, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super is one of the best price for performance cards on the market. The RTX 2080 Super will provide a consistent 60fps on many demanding games like PUBG) at Ultra at 1080p, and even 1440p for some games like Apex Legends. It'll also handle Fortnite with zero issues. For those interested in VR, this card will have no problem playing any and and all applications currently on the market.

For streaming, the newly-updated NVENC encoding will offload the task to the GPU with a minimal performance hit using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) while providing image quality similar to or better than x264 Fast quality.

Case

All of our components are housed in the Fractal Design Meshify C Blackout. This case features a completely black design and a tempered glass window. It includes 2x front panel USB 3 ports, full mesh front panel, a PSU shroud, and a number of cable management holes and tie-offs to help your build look cleaner. It can also comfortably fit full-sized video cards and large CPU coolers.

PSU

For our power supply, we're using a parametric selection of well-reviewed semi or fully modular units, all of which are 80+ Gold certified or above and can provide plenty of power for this build.

I wouldn't recommend getting the 2080, makes no sense buying a 2080 when you can get the 2070 super or 5700 xt for cheaper and having little to no difference. And I would reccomend getting at least a 1tb ssd, the crucial p1 is a good ssd, and is great for $99-$110. I don't really know Hitachi very well, but I know WD Blue drives are better and I'm not sure you'd need 4tb of hdd storage.

Just get a rig for 1080p and streaming and gaming and you're good.

That's a good call. We've actually updated the guide to a 2080 Super.

Maybe he wants a 2080 and doesn't need to squeeze every penny? If he did then a 2060 super would be in there.

5700 xt doesnt pair up with a 2080. That is an excellent price for an 2080. Make no sense not to get it

I like the build but I would use the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB Founders Edition Video Card for about $530 more but that is only my preference.

I mean, there's a lot you can change if you are planning to spend over 500 dollars more on the build.

In your opinion, if you were spending $500 more, what would you change about this? Loving this build but have a little extra wiggle room

Would I be okay to replace the be quiet! cpu cooler with the Noctua NH-U12S 55 CFM CPU Cooler?

how come you don't include an operating system?

Just noticed that this list pairs up an i5 with a 2080 super. That looks like it could cause severe bottlenecking. Will it have any issues Raytracing in Battlefield 5, or managing hundreds of divisions in HOI? I play both games so I am trying to find a balanced build. Also, what would an upgrade path look like for this build?

This build will not be bottlenecked. The GPU will be the limiting factor in the majority of scenarios while gaming.

For this u can get a ryzen 7 3700x with an rx 5700 xt, depending on the rest of the specs
