$1,500 PC Build for Gaming - looking to order in next 48 hrs

Used primarily for gaming. Main reason I am going with the mobo in the list is for the combination of features and built in Wifi/4.0BT support. Any feedback welcome.

You actually have a perfect setup right there. I'm planning on buying and building a Micro-ATX/Mini-ITX system (still deciding on the form factor I want to use and whether or not I should overclock) very similar to this before the end of the year. You'll have to let me know how it all turns out. Good luck!

Put in the order on it last night with only one slight change. I'll let you know how it goes!

You could have a look into this as well. It upgrades your SSD, keyboard, thermal compound and memory, while it reduces cost on the case and keyboard and Mobo.

The ASUS Mobo is great for gaming and over clocking. It was required to remove some space on your SSD, but you can change it back if you want.

See you on the Battlefield!

The 840 Pro has almost zero difference in performance for gaming, and costs almost as much for half as much space. It's not a bad SSD by any means, but if you're building on a budget and you're not a hardcore video editor, there is absolutely no reason to get it over the mx100 series.

I agree with your recommendation on the ram though. Thermal paste isn't remotely needed for this build. It doesn't hurt, but it's really just a waste of money to save 1 or 2 degrees Celcius.

He looks like he wants to do a microatx build too, so the case and mobo recommendations really don't work even though they are great parts.

I prefer a R9 290 over that GPU

I did consider it but felt it was 1) probably overkill given that the monitor is only 1080p and 2) it pushed the build outside of the budget. I also saw a number of comments that the 290 runs hot which made me concerned about using it in a small air cooled only case. Thanks for the feedback though - this site was invaluable in catching up on the current technology.

The 290 does not run hot. The original design with the reference cooler was inadequate to handle the heat it generated. Non reference coolers run absolutely fine. In fact the powercolor pcs+ 290 is cooler and quieter than any equivalent nvidia gpu on the market in the US.

I'd ditch the thermal paste and switch the GPU to an r9 290. Would also look into different power supplies, the price for that 650w is borderline criminal.
