I'm looking to replace the behemoth (speaking of size/weight more than internals) of a workstation I currently use, primarily for motion graphics in Adobe After Effects (AE) with some light 3D work. I also use it for gaming, though the primary purpose is graphics. I'm based in the US.
My budget is $2,000, though I'd happily pay less. I am willing to spend more on things that affect the form factor (i.e. a case from DAN cases). It needs to be able to fit in a carry-on suitcase; if it can fit in a medium-sized backpack, that's even better!
My current build features an i7-4770k, 32gb of DDR3 RAM, and a GTX 770. These parts, while dated, still work fine for my needs. I'm hoping to get a performance boost in the new build, but definitely don't need the absolute latest and greatest.
Because I use it for AE, I need an Nvidia GPU to take advantage of accelerated graphics. For that same reason, I need an intel processor – for whatever reason, they tend to have much better performance with this software.
I'll also need to pack this thing full of solid-state storage (it seems like 1tb SSD's have suddenly become cheap??), and at least 32gb of RAM.
If anyone has the time and interest to help me put together a list of parts, I would really appreciate it!
