My friend has asked me to design him a build, roughly around £1500. He's got mouse, keyboard, extra storage from his current PC. I put this together earlier, any advice on changes/improvements etc...
This is what I came up with. might be worth it to upgrade to the 2080 and get a Ryzen 5 instead:

it wouldn't be worth it to get a x470 motherboard to pair with a ryzen 5 unless you're pushing it beyond the safe voltage with extremely heavy overclocks.
Depends on what it will be used for. Nobody can recomend a video card without knowing if it's for gaming and the monitor resolution and refresh rate.
Mostly for gaming. His monitor is 1440p, 144hz.
With that monitor I would get more video card.
The M.2 drive you picked only runs at SATA speed it's just a M.2 form factor.
For pure gaming get the i5 9600K it will beat the crap out of the AMD stuff and 6 cores are plenty for gaming.
this would be around 100 pounds over budget but it'd be vast improvement over the last.
Staying with the 9700K - you could take this approach.
Big beautiful black air cooler
Better VRM on your motherboard - includes wifi if you need/ want that.
Nothing wrong with the RAM you had, but the LPX ram will be easier to work with, with a beefy air cooling solution.
Less expensive case, with an extra case fan.
