Is it a dumb idea to try and use this older AMD CPU? Do I need a more powerful cooler if I wanted to try and overclock to say 5ghz? Can you suggest a better intel build that would be just as good or better? I kinda want a better case, but I don't know much about how to pick a good case without seeing it in person.

Yes, it is an incredibly dumb idea to use that CPU because the Ryzen series chips come out in literally less than 48 hours. I'm still going to wait on real benchmarks, but it sounds like you're really going to want to wait if you want those cores.

Ryzen is prohibitively expensive though, I'm not going to get nearly the same performance per dollar yet.

The 1700 is cheaper than the 5820K that was recommended in the last build, still 8C/16T.

If you can afford to wait, I'd go with this as it will crush the build you suggested above and there will most likely be price drops on the CPU when Ryzen is released

I can afford to wait sure. Why that video card? Wattage of that PSU seems a bit low to me.

The reason for that video card was I was trying to keep the price down as much as possible for you. The PSU will be just fine so long as you don't plan to OC the hell out of the CPU and GPU, especially seeing as it is a really well built unit
