Motherboard issues

i built a computer a while ago, and I was looking to add a GPU so I could do some gaming. (PC in my completed builds if you'd like to see it) However when I was shopping I noticed most of the graphics cards said they weren't compatible. Is this simply because I'm missing some connector on the motherboard I chose? If I have to upgrade to a larger size MOBO and case that's fine. I just wanted to know what's wrong.
