Triple Monitor 7870

This is my current set up http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1r80R

I currently have a monitor set up to the DVI and a TV set up to the HDMI output of my 7870. Ive heard things about graphics cards getting lower frames when you add another monitor.

My question is if i get a monitor for a 3 screen set up will it decrease my performance? I wouldnt be playing games on all 3 screens but for instance i would have netflix on one, video game on another any maybe reddit on the third.

Any insight would be helpful, thanks in advance

it would significantly decrease performance, even if you arent using the other 2 for gaming.

ahh i c, thanks for the reply, do you think that just having 2 monitors is already sapping performance from the one? is the only solution to upgrade my video card?

2 moniters isnt as bad as 3 (of course lol) I have 2 monitors, not much of a performance decrease from 1 to 2, but when I hook up a 3rd, you can tell there is a big difference. I would say a 7870 would support 3 moniters and still have playable framerates! I have 3 way sli 470

In my new build I was planning on buying a nicer/bigger screen. I already am running 2 22" screens on my current setup.

This may sound like a stupid question but as long as the 2 screens are turned off during the time of gameplay I can assume it wouldn't take away from the performance right? Unless I was running Teamspeak or something like that in a 2nd screen I wouldn't need them on anyways during a game session.

my guess is if you just turn on the monitor it will still cause the lag but if you going onto windows screen resolution and disbale the other 2 temporarily they prolly wont affect it.
