As above, absolutely 0 chance for China to sell HK off. Even asking the question would likely be seen as an insult.

China is not short for money and similarly China is in a expansionist phase and forcibly laying claims to territory. They are not militarising the South China Sea for example for fun. They are doing it to forcibly bring that area under there influence and little anyone can do about it, they will simply ignore the UN ruling against them brought by Philippines. Likewise in passive way, in even movies they are forcing this area as showing as part of their territoryhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-50093028

Likewise, they are not building infrastructure around the world for fun, they are doing it to broaden influence. Good example is the Hambantota port in Sri Lanka, build a useless port for Sri Lanka with crippling debt, then in lue of debt take it over and land around it gaining a strategic location.

Point being, Hong Kong is already a part of China (abit with special conditions). They have a heavy hand as you can see in their western regions and they are going to massive length's to bring areas not in their influence under their influence. With all that in mind absolutely no way they would sell HK to anyone, least of all the USA who are arguably their global rival in many spectrum's.

I'd argue they are doing it to deter the Indian Navy , and to a lesser extent, the US Navy. The Indian Navy is unquestionably superior to the Chinese Navy. They could block China's sea routes and cripple them. It's easier to build fortifications than to modernize and expand a navy so it's a decent, albeit less than 100% wise technique.

Yes exactly its hand in hand and the end result is what I wrote, bringing that area under their influence. By building and developing on these islands they will have an advantage over any foreign power. They would need to add these spots into any analysis The reason they are doing this is to bring the area under their influence. It shows local countries we (china) are the local 800lb gorilla and you would be wise to remember. In regards to Block sea routes, china is very much aware. This is the reason why they invest heavily and often talk about their anti-ship missiles, in point to nullify one of the US's ways of projecting power via their navy. In all what they are creating is an area of denial region to foreign powers, or at least an area where things would get very messy.

In regards to India, China is also actively trying to go into their back yard to try and make India think of contemplating such things. As mentioned, they did not take over the port few 100 miles off India's Ocean for no reason. Its a strategic location this has amusingly been laid out by Sri Lankan government members https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/25/world/asia/china-sri-lanka-port.html

Though Chinese officials and analysts have insisted that China’s interest in the Hambantota port is purely commercial, Sri Lankan officials said that from the start, the intelligence and strategic possibilities of the port’s location were part of the negotiations.

I would also ask where and why you believe the Indian Navy is unquestionably superior? From most available things I can see, the Chinese navy dwarfs the Indian Navy in manpower and fleet size at the moment. Not that it matters
