PCPartPicker Mobile Site Now Available

philip

May 28, 2014

PCPartPicker Mobile

We're pleased to announce that the mobile version of PCPartPicker is now available! We've rolled out most of the site functionality in a UI that better suits a mobile-sized screen and a touch-based interface. While we auto-detect most mobile devices, you can also override the full / mobile version setting by clicking the "Switch to..." links on the bottom of each page.

Let us know what you think! If you have any questions or comments, drop us a comment in the forums!

How long until there is an app for PCPartPicker? I'm sure plenty would like to see that.

I would love to see an app!

Why when all the functionality is on the site???

  • 12 points

Convenience :P

  • 7 points

Makes sense. Just FYI, you can add a bookmark to your homescreen if you are rocking Android. There is a widget for that named "bookmarks". Obviously you already have to have PCPartPicker bookmarked for it to work though. I just did so :)! (I hadn't thought of it before, thanks!)

  • 1 point

You can do this on both system FYI, iOS & Android, works wonders in both case :)

  • 1 point

Maybe an offline app with the parts database built in. I know I would personally love that.

  • 5 points

why is there a facebook app if there is a website? why is there a twitter app if there is a website?

well i think websites work on a large pc monitor, but i hate browsing on a smartphone. :*(

like stingingnettle said "convenience". :D

but that's just my opinion.

  • 1 point

I agree with you, just the same with the crappy youtube app from google, other youtube apps are better but not the point .

But yes, it would be great if there is an app of this, i believe it can happen and possible more functionality that the mobile version probably can't handle,

But like everything else, theres a balance between whats great about the other while the other one can't handle.

Have been wanting an app on iOS for some time, I would never use this site on a mobile, just too slow and inconvenient.

  • 14 points

Will there be a way to view completed builds?

  • 18 points

Yep. Still in work, but coming.

Been waiting ages for the mobile site. The end result is fantastic and far more than I expected! Great job to everyone involved with this project!

Thanks Philip! Another great feature of PCPartPicker. Can you please look into adding a review section for components. That would be great :)

  • 4 points

I was just thinking about this, in fact....Forum feature request link Pile on :)

  • 2 points

I commented on that forum too a while ago. I was going to make one asking for review sections but then I saw this and added to the forum. Let's hope we get a review section :)

Recently I have had trouble accessing the mobile site. There is no button to switch and it isn’t auto detecting. Does anyone know how to fix?

  • 1 point

We recently disabled it until the responsive layout version of our site comes online: https://pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic/312357-disabling-the-mobile-version-of-the-site

It's 2019 and it looks like mobile switch option is no more working or it's gone ?

  • 1 point

Trying out he mobile site now, works really good! Now I don't need to lug around my laptop everywhere, or wait for some of the larger part pages to load (still takes some time, 4G is only so fast).

Good job, PCPartPicker!

  • 1 point

now its time to work on custom water cooling

  • 1 point

Agreed. I've brought this up to them before. They seemed interested in pursuing this. I asked to start with a Water Cooling forum, but have not heard any word about it since :(

  • 4 points

We're working on it, but it's a TON of parts to add in. It also requires a much more detailed breakdown of data for cases that takes considerable time to pull and update (such as what parts of the case support radiators, how many, what depth, etc.)

  • 5 points

I totally understand. No rush on that. I was only wondering if a forum section could suffice in the meantime :P

  • 0 points

They have a forum section... https://pcpartpicker.com/forums/

  • 2 points

A forum section for water cooling is what I was referring to... I had previously spoken with manirelli about it.

  • 2 points

That would be helpful and I do like the idea of a water cooling section. Also just as my input I think that the majority of people willing to put time in to make a custom water cooling loop also have the time to crunch some numbers themselves.

  • 1 point

yes, but its a convenience thing to have all of your parts is one central location that you can view from anywhere instead of having a large notepad document

  • 1 point

Would it be easier to at least add in the parts and categories first with a note stating that custom water cooling loop compatibility is not checked at this time?

  • 1 point

Woo!

  • 1 point

ABOUT TIME!

  • 1 point

Site looks great. Would love to be able to see my list of favorite parts.

  • 3 points

Fear not. Favorites will eventually make their way to mobile as well.

  • 1 point

Thanks to everyone that worked on this! The default sort is pretty nice, but there is still some issues with finding a range of items to compare prices and such. This is just after 30 - 40 minutes of playing with it, so I could be wrong. Otherwise, great mobile app. Runs smooth.

  • 1 point

i love this! thanks for making it possible

  • 1 point

I was just hoping this existed a week ago. You guys work fast :D

  • 1 point

Hooray! Thank you! Sorting lists was so slow on mobile previously, but now it's fixed. Good job again!

  • 1 point

Congrats, we (probably more than half of the people above the age of 16 who use this site) have been waiting for this. Kind of feels like wizardry. I wonder what else are you guys cooking up.

  • 1 point

The text is a little buggy when adding custom stuff (for me at least) the cursor bar is all the way out of the box where you enter in the text and it's a little buggy when trying to select keywords or highlight phrases.

  • 2 points

Very strange. What device and browser are you using?

  • 1 point

ios and safari iphone 4s it's weird because it would be the name of the custom item only but the custom link and price would be operating perfectly

  • 1 point

Awesome.

  • 1 point

You guys should make an app!

  • 1 point

Now all you guys need is an app, and you're golden!

  • 1 point

i have been waiting for ever for this!!!!!

  • 1 point

Now I a reason to get robbed on the public bus :D. I can show my friends builds instead of saying, "I'll email it later to you." Awesome, Love it. Keep Going and take over the PC community and rule the world in small increments, hehe.

The fact that most of my time on this site is from my nexus 7 that's awesome!

  • 1 point

I started using it. Looks really good; kind of hard to get used to it first, but really good when you know how to navigate. It's very niceee!

This doesn't seem to be working on tablets. I have an LG G Pad. I try to manually switch to Mobil and it doesn't work. Thanks for the help guys!

  • 2 points

I think that should be fixed now - I just rolled out some changes about 45 minutes ago that should have addressed that.

  • 1 point

Awesome! It works now! Though it didn't automatically pull up on the mobile version. Keep up the great work!

Awesome. Awesome and Awesome!

Sweet! Mobile site is really smooth and the functionality is a million times better! Thanks guys!!

  • 1 point

Thank you! I've been waiting forever :D

  • 1 point

Well done! I love it. When using the full site on my mobile devices it takes a long time to load the Memory, Storage and Case pages. Now everything loads in a snap even using 3G. Thanks for the great work.

  • 1 point

good. but not comfortable when your looking for lists:( i know it depends on screen size

  • 1 point

Love it, Philip. It works like a charm in my Nokia 5530 XpressMusic but only in Portrait mode. Great feature, this will be handy if someone want to discuss-and-decide the custom of their choice with someone they know but forgot to bring a laptop. Keep it up!

It should. My personal phone is a Lumia, so I try to keep it happy.

  • 1 point

Make it an app PLEASE!!! :)

  • 1 point

Sorry but personally, I dislike it to the old one. It's hard and takes forever to go down all the parts and is just generally inconvenient for me.

  • 1 point

Ok. There's a link on the bottom of the page to let you switch back to full mode.

This is great but i would love a (free) app even more

Can you fix the System Builder for dual CPU. Because when i choose the EVGA SR-2 no CPU Comes up, single CPU Cooler instead of two CPU Cooler, and please can you add a secondary power supply option(with the video cards and overclocking pc systems right now we need a 2nd power supply for stable power output.). This will be a great help for those who like to build a overclocking pc's or video editing pc's and all those kinds of stuff. BIG THANKS. _^

My pc died about a month ago. Figuring out what all to get to put a new one together was a lot more confusing until my cousin's husband suggested this site to me. This site took care of a lot of the issues I was running into without it.

As for this mobile version, I really like it. Ever since it was recommended to it it's been one of my go-to sites for figuring out what to get and what I've already decided on. Plus, since all of the shopping for my new pc has been via my Android transformer tablet, I wouldn't not have been able to use this site if you didn't have this mobile version. Thanks for having your site on a mobile version. I'd love to have an app for it as well so I can go to my stuff at the touch of an icon on my tablet rather than the extra steps of bringing it up through my Internet Explorer, but at least I have it this way rather than nothing at all.

Are you adding this to Android and the Kindle OS?

It's a mobile website, not an app. It works fine already on Android

The filters are way harder to find, and the detailed list isn't there. I'm glad you guys tried, though!

  • 2 points

Compromises must be made to fit a smaller screen. The full mode is still available if you prefer that experience.

  • 1 point

Ah, I see. I use the full mode usually, but the full mode tends to be a hog on my phone and lag, while the mobile version tends to run easier.

I think what you guys should do is make it have the option of a mobile detailed list interface, putting the filters in a side-swipe page. That way, we can swipe back and forth between the list (for choosing parts) and the filters (for finding the parts we need) without the hassle of zooming. Just my two cents.

  • 2 points

We tried many variations - there just isn't enough screen width to pull off a detailed list when the device is in portrait mode. Even in landscape mode, there isn't enough width for it to be useful - you can fit the name, price, and maybe one data field, but no other relevant details.

  • 3 points

Maybe 3 swipe-able screens:

  • The CPUs and prices
  • The specs (with the name in low-profile text)
  • The filters
  • 1 point

just like that
