Description

So Grandma has been complaining about her laptop and screen size. Especially since we have all but forced her to do more things online. So I decided to see what I could throw together for her.

She's taking a short trip and I'm gonna slide in and set this up for her as a surprise when she gets back.

I know this isn't an impressive rig, especially on this site, but I am rather proud of what I was able to put together from on hand and recycled parts.

So go on and show Grandma some love for her new PC. I'm gonna show her this page when she gets back. She will get a kick out of it.

Nice build! It's good to see recycled parts.

I love the opening line "So Grandma has been complaining". The way it sounds, it's like the whole Internet knows your grandma lol.

P.S: Grandma is going to like her new PC. She can open up a bunch of Chrome/Firefox tabs till her heart is content.

Awesome build, for a good cause. Would've been funny if you got her a liquid cooled Titan RTX and i9-9980XE.

I was scared to put any RGB in it. She would beat me with a wet mop.

That's hilarious. My grandma would chase me around the house with a flyswatter if I DIDN'T put red lights and accents in her computer somewhere. She loves her crazy red and black color schemes haha.

A Haswell i5, an SSD in a Fractal case. Grandma is ready to roll through the interwebs.

Let us know if Grandma complains again that Google Chrome is struggling with only 4GB RAM. Great work, sure hope Grandma enjoys it! XD

Great prices, and great to see older parts repurposed. I'm sure it will be more than enough for "Grandma". Cheers

Microsoft lists the minimum RAM for Windows 10 64bit as 2Gb.

guess I've just got worried as my idle ram usage is like 3 gigs

This is how I was taught to think of RAM. If you are using all of the RAM you have then consider adding more. If you have unused RAM then you are just a collector.

Even for a grandma who isn't very tech savvy, 4 GB RAM is very low.

I ran it through most of the sites she would be on and didn't find any issues. If she were using Chrome I would add RAM but she's using IE/Edge. 4Gb is plenty to run it. Besides, have you seen the cost of RAM? Even DDR3 is ridiculous.
