Built fairly slowly over time. The cards run super hot but that's just how 480's are. Next upgrade will be a SSD size increase and then a GPU upgrade (maybe when the 700 series comes out).
2 480's? Did you already have those, or did you buy those recently?
That's what I was wondering lol.
Won them at Blizzcon. Originally had 2 460's and the 480's run everything I want to at ridiculous framerates anyways, so I've seen no need to upgrade since. The 600 series looks really good but I don't have the money to invest into a 670/680 so I'll most likely wait till the 700 series to upgrade.
With a Budget like yours and price is no problem between the $2000 Mark...
STEELSERIES SIBERIA V2 FROST BLUE IS WHAT YOU SHOULD OF GOT!!!!!! :)
Yeah those would have been perfect! But I got these on sale and it was before I got the Phantom case.
2 480s? What a waste of money. I hope you bought those a while ago. Other than that, it looks like a nice build.
Ok, makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. :)
No problem :D
what would have been a better purchase than 480's?
If you bought it recently, a lot of things. If it was bought when the 480s were new, like I said, then there's nothing wrong with it.
Hows that case? Lol 2 480's? Your build, not mine.
Case is fantastic! So much room for everything to fit in nicely, cable management was a breeze. As for the 480's, I won them at Blizzcon. Originally had 2 460's and the 480's run everything I want to at ridiculous framerates anyways, so I've seen no need to upgrade since. The 600 series looks really good but I don't have the money to invest into a 670/680 so I'll most likely wait till the 700 series to upgrade.
Ahh makes sense haha. And that case is one I've been looking at for some time now.
Glad to hear you build is treating you nicely :)
Yeah it's a really good case. I highly recommend it. Something worth noting though is that you can't install a side fan on the 200mm fan mount (without modifications) if you have a tall-ish CPU cooler. My CPU cooler blocks any 200MM fan I try to mount so I don't have one on it at the moment. I'm thinking about buying one of the side panels for this case that has a window instead of the mesh fan mount because the only thing I don't 100% love about the case is the lack of a window. I wanna see my room heater in action!
Yeah, it sounds nice! But.... Where are the 5 1/4 inch bays? You also might want to look into a Liquid cooling unit if you dont plan on upgrading for a while. Just a suggestion. Because ive heard rumors of the 480's reaching ridiculous temps while gaming.
The 5 1/4 inch bays are behind a door on the front of the case. It's nice since I never really use my CD drive but if you have any fan controllers or any aesthetic stuff you'd want to see in a 5 1/4 inch bay this would not be the case for you... If that's something you're into I'd recommend the NZXT Switch 810, it was my 1st choice of case but the Phantom was on sale for the right price at the right time and I got it instead.
The 480's do reach ridiculous temps, and I'm debating buying some H60's to use to cool them (there's a guy on overclock.net that makes brackets specifically for that purpose), because a full water-cooling rig is a bit out of my budget right now...
