Description

I originally started this build to render 3d models, and to be as future proof as possible. I'm going into high school, and I needed something for cad, and my current macbook pro just wouldn't cut it. I decided to, rather than buying a high end gaming laptop, I would build one, and my friends praised me for it...my parents weren't too thrilled with this idea, so to you parents, if you happen to be reading this, Thank you for the help with funding this beastly pc, and nah nah na boo boo, told you so.

I'm an aesthetics guy, but I still believe form over function. this build is a great compliment of them both. It had to look good on my desk, and keep the classic black and white tuxedo look. I personally think less is more, and looking at this thing next to me every day, is something I hope to enjoy for a long time.

The build is centered around that processor. the 4790k gives lots of room for overclocking, paired with the H100i GTX and the MSI Z97S motherboard. These parts should give a lot of brawn to the computer. I went with kingston's hyperX memory, because...well...it looks cool.

I'm impatient, and the 2 Samsung 850 EVO drives (which are running in raid 0) keep the machine's boot time within about 3 seconds from completely off. a WD black is used for mass storage.

In the graphics department, it's rocking a GTX 970, which is probably overkill for most stuff i'm going to be doing, but I'm in the middle of a computer power pissing war with a friend, so I believe the extra hundred dollars is well spent.

Looking back, the power supply may have been the weakest part of this build, I would of gone with a brand like Corsair or EVGA, but since my desk is floating in the middle of the room, The white back plate and the full modularity helps with the prettiness.

The case is a love hate thing, I personally love it. Nuff said.

I ended up running windows 8.1 pro mostly for remote desktop.

In conclusion it is a sleek and sexy machine, I personally love it, I would love some input.

Part Reviews

CPU

This thing is badass, snappy, and I have no bad things to say about it except the fact I couldn't wait for skylake.

CPU Cooler

Got a great deal on this from a friend. performs like a h100i, looks slightly better, harder to manage the tubing. probably not work 20 bucks to most people.

Motherboard

Epic. works well. bios matches the build, oc like a champ.

Storage

Fast as hell in RAID 0. boot times range from 1 to 3 seconds.

Storage

snappy, double the speed of a blue. worth the extra 20 bucks.

Video Card

The only flaw i see in this card is the fact there is a blue strike on the side. spend 2 hours painting it with plastidip to make it look good.

Case

Beautiful case, easy to manage. one flaw is the side panel scratches like butter. stupid ABS . will be replacing with polycarb soon.

Operating System

This os is decent to say the best. it works, it doesn't work amazingly. deficiently a tablet OS

Monitor

The monitor does in fact have a centimeter besel, as not shown in all of their promotional photos. bad AOC. Bad.

Mouse

with a 500z poling rate, this thing feels just about as responsive as a wired mouse, with the receiver close enough. it works. played through batman archam knight with it. (don't h8. got the game for free with my 970)

Looks promising. More pictures? I would recommend a PSU update.

yeah, I will. It works, and it's white, but I don't love it.

Why didn't you just shell out another 20 bucks for the 850 EVO 500GB?

because it's not 20 more. at least at the time at purchase. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373

*250. The 500 is about $90 more.

This build post needs a glamour RAM shot. Nice build tho. That case is the **** (disclaimer: biased opinion).

I really should. I look at it basically everyday. I personally think HyperX white looks better then dominator platinum

it's decent. it's really nothing special, and I personally believe it's the weakest choice of component in this entire build. I would of gone with the EVGA move has 750 watt modular if i knew i would be getting 50 percent off on it with the graphics card.

Very sleek, but when I saw the name I thought that it would have linux on it... oh well. I agree that those asymetric heat spreaders are quite sexy ;) (+1)

Great part list. Love it. How does the motherboard perform, though? Is it worth the buy?

So far i've noticed nothing bad. overclocks like a champ, I'm currently running my 4790k at 4.6-4.7 ghz stable
