Description

Inspired by D.Va from Overwatch.

Case has been recolored to match D.Va's theme. All metal pieces have been powder coated, plastic pieces were primed and painted, then covered with a matte clear coat. Case frame has been changed to white (originally black). Side panels now pink, inspired by her MEKA. Green accent colors (grills), are based on the MEKA window color. Plastic pieces are blue to match her bodysuit.

The vinyls I think really set the build apart, makes it look a lot more complete. I plan to get a MEKA vinyl made, but either have to find a nice looking vector or design it myself. This is planned for a future revamp.

To save space, the custom water cooling loop was done without a reservoir. This was a lot more tricky than I thought. I spent about 1.5hrs rolling the case around and slowly bleeding out the air bubbles (I have a valve which you may see in the pictures). Once I find a Mountain Dew bottle I may make that the reservoir.

Overclocking: CPU runs at 4.8GHz. GPU at 2.1GHz.

After 6hrs+ of yelling "Nerf This!" the loop gets to 55C. A little warm, but with only this single radiator it's not too bad. Fans are in push/pull on the radiator.

Overall I'm quite pleased with the build. If anyone wants to see it in person, I go to the CritGamer LAN parties in Tyler, TX.

Overall a very sleek and well done mod with some solid parts as well. I approve 1+

Powder coating from a local shop, not sure what they used specifically. Spray paint (what I did), was some outdoor paint/primer stuff I found at Lowe's.

Thanks!

I've always liked that case. Good original application of it. +1 Sure looks small...i'll have to study what it can/cannot fit.

  • 1 point

It is pretty compact. Be VERY careful of height. The plugs on top of the GPU waterblock actually push out the side panel some. It is very slick when it's all said and done though.

My senses tell me next feature! My only suggestion would be to get a backplate for your gpu purely for aesthetic purposes.

  • 1 point

Yes I agree! But the only backplate at the time said 1080 on it an I'm not a liar. I did see they have a backplate now so I will be picking it up sometime soon. Because I agree, it does really polish it off (since you can see that side).

  • 1 point

Wow, the uniqueness here is awesome! I'm not an overwatch player, but looking at pictures of D.Va and her MEKA, this PC fits perfectly into the style of them, props as well for doing a full loop sans reservoir, a Mt. Dew bottle would be perfect. Wish I lived in Texas so I could see this beautiful rig in person!

Also, is there a possibility of some slick custom cables on the horizon? I'd love to see the build with them inside

Nice, but why the 6600k? If i went all out i would have went 8gb of ram and the i7-6700k

  • 1 point

The 6600k seems to have much better value. For being over $150 (Canadian) cheaper, the overclock at least this one here is CRAZY! Some people can only overclock the 6700k to ~4.7

  • 1 point

Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised with my OC. It takes 1.4V to get 4.9GHz though.

I plan on it. Got a few more mods I want to complete. RGB lighting is in the list.

  • 1 point

Really love your build, did you bring the case parts to an auto shop to be sprayed? And also did you just give them the Vinyl and tell them where to apply it?

  • 2 points

I disassembled the case, had them powdercoated at a local shop. I designed the vinyls and had them cut at FastSigns. I applied them myself.

  • 1 point

May I ask the brand of paint you had used along with the method of application?

  • 1 point

Since the powder coating was done at a shop, I'm not sure the brand they used. As for the blue plastic pieces, I used an outdoor paint/primer in a rattlecan. Can't remember the brand, but it was the only one that matched.

  • 1 point

Did you use anything to give it that glossy finish?

  • 1 point

Nope. Nothing extra for the gloss.

  • 1 point

Found the brand for the spray paint (the blue parts), Rust-Oleum! They have a Paint & Primer rattle can.

That moment when you thought it was a pimped out xbox 360 at first.

  • 1 point

This case has some personality to it! Great job, personally I would have made the mesh Blue and used a green window tint for the side window, I feel that would stand out a bit more. I love that you got D.Va's ult symbol on the LCD, and the sticker is a nice break from all that pink.

  • 1 point

Yeah, I'm unsure of the mesh color. Thinking of re-doing it. So full blue top?

I love the green window tint idea. In D.Va computer 2.0 I plan to make the side window with additional pieces of plastic make it look like her shield.

Hey, this is a beautiful build! Great work.

I have a question actually about the vinyl you used to make the D.Va face on the side panel - did you use regular sized printer paper vinyl for each piece or one very large sheet of vinyl?

  • 1 point

Everything about this rig just looks incredible. I'm highly impressed with the paint job but more so with the custom liquid cooling loop. Amazing how you managed to fit all of that tubing inside of such a small chassis and still manage to make it work, even though the temperature isn't necessarily... "optimal". It still functions very nicely like it's supposed to and that's all that matters. Plus on a side note it's just very aesthetically pleasing. Eye candy. I love how you only used solid state quality storage rather than relying on any sort of magnetic drive to store data, but I'm not very satisfied with the lack of storage capacity in this. Not even 1TB? Hmm...

Overall, this thing really reminds me of a pink Xbox 360 (for some odd reason). It's just so cool to look at. I'd give this a 9.5/10.

Waiting to see about a 1080Ti.
