Description

Hello all, im soon to be 15 and this is my first build I was desperate for as I have been using a laptop as a console for almost 2 years now. I plan on picture/video editing and internet browsing but mostly gaming. I used a crucial m550 SSD which boots be up to Windows 10 technical preview in under 12 secs. Neat for my budget!

My budget was £500 including monitor and peripherals and part prices are more expensive in the UK so it was a real challange. My room is only 7x8 feet (still beats sharing :D) and my bed takes up over half of it. Everything is wall mounted to make use of vertical space.

CPU: Intel Pentuim G3258 (temporarily overclock to 4.2ghz) I was skeptical about using a dual core for games knowing that next gen consoles have 8 cores. The CPU cost me £47 and is absolutely worth every penny. I haven't adjusted the voltage any and used the MSI BIOS to take it up to 4.2ghz. Games run perfectly stable and other applications have no delay. I also went with the pentium because I hear the intel "broadwell" CPU'S will use the LGA 1150 socket so I wont need a new mobo and can get a new i5 some time in 2015.

CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Not really much to say. CPU temps never above 50c. Cant hear it much at all. only downside is its a little too big for the case and one of the 8 heat pipes scratches against the side window. Dosn't bother me much though.

MOTHERBOARD: MSI Z97 PC MATE LGA1150 Great great board. Only advice is double check the instructions as I put the wrong screws in the mobo standoffs and it rounded them meaning the board and screws were stuck in. it was a risky job with the pliers but everythings good now.

RAM: 1x4gb Corsair Vengence 1600mhz CAS 9 I monitor RAM usage in all my games and ive never seen them go above 3gb. (I mainly play older games like skyrim, Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3. I have no intention of playing any of the new crap so I dont need more. I would have got 8gb but the price of RAM shot up in the UK. I suppose it didnt help everything was bought inbetween Black friday and Cyber monday so there were no sales :P oh well.

SSD: Crucial M550 128GB 2.5" SSD As I mentioned before I can load Windows 10 in about 12 secs so the things rapid. filled it in less than 1 day. Enough said. HDD: WD 1TB Its a western digital not a segate barracuda but oh well. cheap and cheerful. Gets used a lot now my SSD is full

GPU: MSI Power Edition 7850 2gb Its MSI not gigabyte but its not on this site anymore. I got this thing used for £60 and its great. Gives me solid fps even on metro last light on high. Considering crossfiring but i would need a bigger PSU. Runs games that are a few years old brilliantly. Love it

PSU: cheap, lovely cables, cheap, nice box. Did i mention it was cheap?

Monitor:24" Benq 1080p something or other Got a display model for £80. Its brilliant compared to a shite 768p 15" laptop 1080P is so good. Maybe I will try 4k when im older that would be nice

Case: Zalman r1 (not Z1 my fault) I cant praise this enough for the price. The cable managements crap but it comes with 3 fans (one of which is LED) and other fancy junk like a GPU supporting bar (which i didnt install) brilliant window and looks amazing The 212 just about fits but the case is smaller than i was expecting. 10/10

Peripherals: Microsoft sidewinder x4. Cost me £25 at CEX used. decent but hard to type on. The mouse is the hp x4000 wireless mouse which is the most comfortable thing I have ever used. Brilliant. I would like to get a corsair hs40 headset but its my bday in a week so I might get money of relatives.

Excuse the crap cable management and please ask any questions you may have. Thanks for reading guys

Seeing that PC up that high, the only thing I can think of is that I need superglue, or duct tape.

Better yet, give me both, that thing will be stuck there come hell or high water!

And yeah, you have to love that little Pentium, doesn't look like much but it'll fool you good.

I would never risk having something that large and heavy, especially a PC, over my head. Accidents do happen...

thanks for your concern. The bar on the right is solid aluminium which is fixed to a wooden joist in the loft. This is the only bit that my dad did.

Very impressive for the price! And an efficient use of space in the room too. Where did you go for the graphics card?

I wrote in my CPU description I used it because of the broadwells being lga 1150 when they come out. I will then get an i5 hopefully
