Description

This is PC to sit in my lounge connected to my TV and stream from my NAS & steam games from my main PC.

The acrylic tubing has been the biggest pain, and it's my first venture into fully custom cabling; however it's going really well so far!

I have modded the side of the case to include a window, although I'm not 100% happy with it and I might revisit it at a later date.

Last few bits to do include colour matching the coolant correctly and maybe revisiting the fan splitter cable, since I seem to be having a couple of issues with it.

Part Reviews

Motherboard

A great little motherboard, with tonnes of features. Built in Sound Card, and WIFI are amazing.

Case

A really good case. Mostly comes apart with no tools, although it would be good to have made the 5 1/2" drive bay removable without a screw driver.

Awesome build... but "stream" steam games? I feel like your choice of video card is a little overkill for that. Tuck an additional SSD in for game storage and run things locally would be my suggestion. streaming is cool but in my experience adds too many issues to do it reliably.

My Steam Machine always mucks up the controller input for streaming titles, I have to restart the game like 3 times before it recognizes the controller... maybe it works better with windows.

Part of the reason for the 970 is that it looks sexy through the window. The other part is that it's got HDMI 2.0 which will allow me to stream 4k content.

This **** is sexy as ****.

Awesome job modding the window, I can't wait till it's finished.

+1 from me.

Awesome Build! What are the dimensions of the window you made? Can you see the tape through the top window?

I basically just removed the vent in the side of the case, I'm pretty sure it's the same as the other side. So I believe it should be 120mm x 240mm (ish).

I will measure it when I get home from work.

Yes, if you look in the right direction (from above and behind the case), however the GPU blocks it looking down and from the front. I will add a couple of pictures later too.

I'm wondering about the SM951 and M7i compatibility, I've seen people having major issues with the SM951 on this board and ASUS doesn't supply any drivers for it because it's an "OEM" drive. I have an M.2 and want to upgrade to the M7i but my M.2 is SATA-based, not PCIe, so I'll have to replace the both of them and I'm not finding too many people having them work without issue.

Disabling CSM within the BIOS allowed windows 8.1 to be installed from a USB stick with no issues. Been running rock solid ever since.

Alright, cool I'll keep that in mind. I'll probably wait until xmas or so to upgrade to 10 so all the bugs get worked out first.
