Description

One of my co-workers recommended this site to me when I decided to finally leave the world of laptops and retail PCs. All my parts were picked with the help of this site, so I figured it was only fitting to post the first pictures here.

This build is primarily for gaming with light video editing as the only secondary purpose. This build is incomplete as is. I plan to add these additional parts:

  • HDD: Solely for media and games I play less often.
  • Additional fans to the case and Evo
  • Ram: Purely cosmetic. (I hate seeing empty ram sockets.)

All parts were purchased from Newegg and NCIX. All prices stated are in $CDN with taxes and shipping included.

Some of my co-workers were interested in how the system looked since I had the majority of parts shipped to work. That's the only reason for posting now. I will update as I overclock and get some benchmarks run.

Update: Windows 7 installed without a hitch. Planning on running Prime95 and Memtest86+ in a couple days.

I'm not sure what you mean by RAM being cosmetic.

Welcome to the site and to building PCs. Your build is sick. Once you get everything running and you benchmark it, you will be so proud. There is no turning back to retail PCs and laptops.

About cosmetic RAM, dont do it. Get the real thing :)

Thank you. I was considering an Alienware with SLI that was on sale over the summer, but the sale ended before I got the cash together. I'm glad I missed it now. Never realized how big a markup was put on retail PCs until I started pricing this build. Plus I had a blast putting it together.

Is there anything overclocked? I practically have the same build, but with 2gb 760s, and my numbers are way below yours. I'm getting P9817 in 3dmark11. Is that with all the default values for 3dmark? maybe the extra 4gb total make a big difference. If you play bf4, would you mind telling me your bench in that? I get 90fps with everything on ultra.

Why that mobo paired with that cpu cooler? Doesn't seem too balanced, performance and price wise, to me.

760 4GB in SLI ? Damn. How many monitors you plan on running?

I chose to use a red/black theme for this build which gave me the option of the ROG or MSI Z87 boards. This one had all the options I needed and I preferred the looks of this one. As for the Evo, I was considering the h100i, but as I'm a first-timer builder, the liquid scares me at the moment. I plan on only a modest oc, so the Evo seemed right for me. I plan on a dual monitor setup so I went SLI and the 4GB 760s were only $30 more than the 2GB models at the time of purchase.

I see nothing wrong with putting a EVO into this build. I personally am not a fan of the corsair water cooler's. I have one that i put into my media build, and for the OC I usually go for their is no reason to spend the extra money. Only if you are going for max overclock the h100i will help but for a modest to high OC the EVO is a great buy.

Also, that case is HUGE. Plans for future upgrades? You can squeeze a whole lot more in that thing...

I knew it was big when I ordered it. I just wasn't prepared for how big it really was when it arrived lol. I've been considering a blu-ray drive and fan controller and already plan on at least one additional hdd. At the very least, I shouldn't ever have to worry about working in cramped spaces.
