Description

I needed an upgrade from my Intel pentium G3258 and GTX 750ti. Having that dual core processor really did hold a lot of things back. I decided to head to PC Case gear to pick up a new MSI board, Cable sleeving, Case, After-market cooler, and some zip ties. I bought the i5 second hand off gumtree for $180 (RRP they are $279), and an extremely rare GTX 970 with the reference design cooler, which I got for only $270, amazing deal. **Note what you see in these photos is a galax GTX 960, it"s my mates GPU which I'm holding on to until my GTX 970 comes. - Getting the massive Be Quiet Dark rock 3 cooler on was a pain in the neck. It was very bulky and heavy, never the less once it was on it was a relief. - The Phanteks P400s is what I'd call an amazing $110 Mid tower case. It has rubber grommets, Fantastic airflow, great space for cable management, a useful fan controller, an included LED illumination at the front, it looks amazing! Customizable for 10 different colours. It has a power supply shroud and hides the hard drives and SSD's. It also can host massive graphics cards, and all over is just a perfect case.

All over this PC is all I need for now, I wont need to upgrade for a while now with that powerful I5, a 4GB GDDR5 Graphics card is certainly future-proofed. I will probably throw another 8GB of RAM in there soon to have 16.

Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for stopping by (;

Nice upgrade you got there, hows fast is the i5 4460 compared to your G3258? I'm sure you can feel the difference! I personally felt something when i upgraded from i5 4440 to i7 4770(for free since my brother upgraded) Anyways +1

Looks very neatly done. I like that the only color is in the cabling and case fans.

How close is the Dark Rock 3 to the window? Does it touch? I'm asking cause the specs on the Dark Rock 3 are 160mm high, and the CPU cooler clearance on the p400s is also 160mm.

No it does not touch, good clearance

How much clearance? I have a 162mm CPU-Cooler, that wouldn't fit according to the specs. Do you think it could fit in this case? (Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev. B)

Hey mate, On this current system there is plenty of clearance and it works fine. For that thermaltake case however you will havr to check the website or the case specs to find out. Hope this helped!

Thanks that's awesome. The Thermaltake is my cooler, not a case btw ;) It's 162 mm tall which is 2 above Phanteks specs. I will order it now and give it a try.

As far as air circulation i don't see this system operating well under temperature. Organized yes but you also need to note that his power supply and cabling is not showing in the photos. Great buy thought i'm using a GTX960 myself.

The cabling is all shoved around the back to hide the mess and in the spare hard drive trays at the bottom. Its good theres a power supply shroud to cover the PSU.

Does this not come with filters with the top? Also, how is the fan controller?

  • 39 months ago
  • 1 point

Hey mate. Yes it comes with sound blocking filters you can put on the top IF you don't have fans mounted on the top. The fan controller is good however I recommend a bought one as this only supports 2 fans.

Nice build. Question.... ho is the Dark Rock 3 with regard to the RAM ? I just purchased it and am trying to see if I will have a headache trying to mount this with my Ripjaws V ram sticks
