Description

This is a build I did for my girlfriend because her PS4 was recently fried in a storm and she wanted to get into pc gaming. We used the insurance money from the PS4 and I paid for some of it as a gift, so our budget was ~550-600$. This is my second time building a computer and luckily everything turned out well. I'm really happy with the way this turned out and she should be fine to play anything she wants for a while to come

Part Reviews

CPU

CPU: Pentium G4560 (60$) Not a bad little powerhouse, especially for the price. 2 cores 4 threads clocked at 3.5 ghz. For what she wants to do (gaming, browsing) she isn't going to utilize the extra cores so more would be a waste, plus for 60 bucks you just can't beat what this little beast can do. Doesn't bottleneck anything, runs cool, low tdp, and is just overall a great budget processor.

CPU Cooler

CPU cooler: Cryorig C7(30$) This was a gift from me so she wasn't stuck with an ugly stock cooler from intel. Cools well, and looks great. Figured if you're going to spend this much money on something it might as well look great too. The processor has been idling around 40 degrees, so i'm gonna tighten it up some and see if that helps. Updates to come.

Motherboard

Motherboard: MSI B250M Mortar Arctic(90$- paid 80$ after a sale) Love the board. We decided to go with a white/black/blue color scheme for the build and this board fits the aesthetic perfectly. It has silver and blue head spreaders on the vrms, white leds, and and a black/blue/ greyish I/O cover. aside from the looks, it has a lot of nice features such as reinforced PCIe lanes and sideways sata ports.

Memory

RAM: Kingston HyperX fury ddr4 2133mhz 8gb(~70$) We bought the white version of the ram pictured. The price of ddr4 ram is TERRIBLE right now. We decided to go with one stick for now then upgrade to 16 later by adding another dimm when the prices go down. Aside from that it comes from a good brand and is gorgeous.

Storage

Storage: Sandisk SSD plus 240gb (70$) and hitachi ultrastar 500gb (35$) Simple enough. Good sized SSD for important games and OS, with a cheap HDD for her other files.

Video Card

GPU: XFX GTR black Rx 480 8gb (270$- got for 200$ after sales and MIR) This card is GREAT. 1080p beast that will run any AAA title ultra 60fps. Got a great deal on it when amd announced their 500 series cards cause venders were trying to push them to make room for the 500 series. Also, it came with the option to buy blue led fans (20$) which is something I got for her since it looks so good with the build. Arguably one of the best cards at the price point.

Case

Case: DIY PC D-480W (60$) Decent looking atx mid tower case that came with 5 fans(3 LED), front panel fan controller, a side panel window, and a nice PSU shroud. The build quality was pretty good and I didn't run into any serious trouble, aside from the fact that the PCI slot cover were nearly IMPOSSIBLE to reach with a scerwdriver. Personally I don't think it's the prettiest but it's what she liked and it had a lot of really nice features so we went with it.

Power Supply

PSU: EVGA 450 watt BT (45$-20$ after sale) Not a hard choice. Enough to power the components and has nice black cables. Caught it on sale for 20$, and for that price it just can't be beat.

I have that same motherboard and cpu... I bought the c7 cooler and took it off because it was running 2c higher than stock cooler... The first comment is right. It's meant for a small enclosure case. It's a good cooler but not for a mid tower case

Hmm.. I didn't know that. It should still be fine because the pentium doesn't run hot. I'll keep that in mind for the future though!

It'll be fine. Mine is a pentium too I was just looking for a little cooler. It looks good. Just will idle 40c+ instead of 30c. Nothing to worry about. Good little build.

Tell your girlfriend welcome to the Glorious PC Master Race. Not a bad build. The g4560 is going to bottleneck the 480 if she decides to get a 1440p monitor. Other than that great build.

She's gonna run 1080p so everything should be fine, and thanks :D

I know the g4560 is just a slower i3. But for 1440p it would be a bottleneck. The reason i brought it up is because he got the 8gb 480 and not the 4gb

Main reason that I got the 8gb model is because it was on sale for 209.99$. That's about the same as the 4gb models, and the extra vram will help in the future so I figured why not. Same price, and eventually the 8gb models are going to out perform the 4gb models
