Description

I recently upgraded my i5 4690k@4.6GHz to a Ryzen 5 - 1600 cpu. I don't regret it !

I use this PC mainly for two things: - Gaming - Recording/Streaming

I am playing a lot of CPU intensive games like Battlefield 1, and eventho my i5 was a good overclocker (4.6GHz @ 1.23v) the lack of cpu threads started to bother me.

Modern games are starting to use and need more than 4 cores / 4 threads and thats why I choose Ryzen.

Sure I could go for an intel i7, but why ?? The Ryzen 1600 is surprisingly good ! it is has powerfull as a intel 5820k at 1/3 of the cost ! (x99 board are crazy expensive)

What is it like to own a Ryzen cpu? It feels weird at first... I was once rendering a video using sony vegas and waited in front of my computer (like I used to)... after few minutes, I realised that I was not using an i5 anymore therefore I was able to render the video and play too! So, I opened Battlefield 1 and start playing during the rendering. The gameplay was buttery smooth and I could even start streaming (the dream you know)...

All of that for 300$ CAD, crazy huh!

My future projects for this build are:

  • Upgrade my monitor for 1440p / 144hz freesync/gsync (not sure yet)
  • Upgrade my GPU (waiting for vega here lol)
  • Add 16GB of ram. and maybe upgrade my SSD to a M.2 Slot ssd. I'll see.

I have a 4690k sitting in my pc right now. You have inspired me!

AOC make some gud high refresh rate monitors one of theirs is black with red accents but only 1080p. I would go 1080 or 4k coz 1440p is weird as it doubles pixels length ways so images seem streched

Thanks for the info! I will have to check that out !

I would of chose a RYZEN myself, but the lack of iGPU, single-threaded performance, and AM4 mounts kept me with my 7600K. The Multi-threaded performance is outstanding, Rendering must be a breeze as its MT is better than a i7 at half the cost. If I did rendering though, I may of second guessed myself...

I did many tests and to be honest the IPC is about equivalent (1% gap) of intel's 5th generation (5280k scored the same on my bench). So, its not that bad, sure its not as good as intel 7th gen, but this is normal for a higher core count cpu.

Anyway, both intel 7600k and amd ryzen are very good cpu!

It's my personal preference, and I got it free (super long story), so whatever. I play so much single threaded games anyway, so it does what I want it to do...

Couldn't find a cheaper PSU? I just got a 700W 80+ Gold Thermaltake semi modular for $50 after a MIR.

I got a RGB Thermaltake Bronze fully modular 750W for $55 also after a MIR.

This computer was built two years ago, thats why I have this GPU and PSU, it was in rebate when I first bought it. Now, I would rather have a fully modular psu like corsair AX1200i or something of that kind

Did you need to order an AM4 mounting bracket separately for this build...or did it come with an AM4 bracket? I know it comes with an AM2/3 bracket.

The new kit comes with the bracket, but since I had the cooler a year before, I had to buy it (for free+ free shipping with a coupon) from corsair website. Shipped and arrived within 7 business days.

Apparently the Corsair site was down a week ago and I was unable to order it from their site for the promo free price (since accounts were disabled).

Did you have to buy a bracket for the CPU cooler

Yes I did. It was free from corsair shop using a coupon and arrived within 7 business days. If you buy the new version of the cooler, it should come with it.

What size are your venitlators? It's kinda weird you can't see the motherboard led's

140mm, i have to admit, the leds are pretty sneaky lmao

Any problems with the 3000mhz ram? For some reason the mobo skips 3000 (goes from 2800 to 3200) in the specs list in newegg. (Using same mobo in my build with a r3 1300x)

EDIT: Is the 3000mhz actually the 2933 listed? (I'm new to this)
