So this is my second PC build, I wanted an enthusiasts high end gaming and minor rendering able build that I could have some fun with overclocking. Every part listed was purchased for the purpose of this computer as I wanted to keep my prior build as a media PC for the living room.
From the beginning, early November 2016, I knew I wanted to use Phanteks Enthoo Evolv TG with clean looking water runs, not being able to see one tube go from a water block to another. So first and most important purchase was the case, measuring and planning the layout I could start concepts of the build and start finding the ideal pieces. I had never worked with water loops before, except from AIO's, so there was a steep learning curve, and it took me several weeks finding the parts I needed that would fit and do the job.
I knew I wanted to wait for CES 2017 in January, also taking advantage of those post-xmas deals, for intel and Asus's new line up of CPU's and MOBO's respectively. I chose the maximus ix formula and the 7700k hoping that I could get as much out of them with overclocking - of which I sure did! I could not resist the T-virus style resevoir for this build, and I went with a beautiful dark green transparent coolent from PrimoChill.
I had my work cut out for me with a lot of custom pieces, the time I first took the drill to the case was make-or-break, but the cuts we straight and as planned. Cutting acyrlic for the PSU shroad and hdd mounting bays to get a cleaner look was difficult, but with a coat of plastidip worked the trick.
I wont go on about the choice for every component, but I wanted it to look clean, run quiet and perform. And does it ever, I managed to achieve a 23% overclock on the 7700k around 5.1 GHz. I didn't push the gpu as much as evga has it already above the original core clocks, however I found a sweet spot of around 2100 MHz, at 65C under full load.
All told, I am overjoyed with how the system turned out, and over the past 5 months I am finally able to sit down and play. While I have gone through some frustration trying to pack too much into a mid size case, I am extremely happy with the EK products, which with their tight angled connectors and flexibility in fittings made this possible.
