This build was for a workstation for audio and video editing, as well as some data science modeling and other development. It’s NOT used for gaming.
The build used an NZXT H700i, and the MSI X399 Creation Motherboard with a AMD 2950x Threadripper. The GPU is a MSI 2080 Gaming X Trio. Frankly I am surprised it all fitted into the case, but in the end it was straightforward.
For those looking to use the MSI Creation you will need to move the white case bracket forward to make some space, but there are Pre-drilled holes. I found it easier to take the bracket out until I had board and mobo cables hooked up.
The MSI graphics card is a monster. But it fits albeit I don’t think I’ll have any room for the custom loop I was considering to include later.
I did go with the Kraken x62, and unfortunately it does block the first ram slot, so if I do add another 4 Gskill DRAM sticks, I have to turn the pump, which will be annoying as the Logo will then not be horizontal. Anyway not an issue for now.
The acrylic Fan and GPU plates are courtesy of V1Tech, and cables from CableMod.
Temperatures - CPU at Idle it stays between 25-30C, and on load tests it sits around 40-45C. GPU runs about 3-5C degrees hotter than CPU. Which about where expected.
CAM Software - what a $@&* piece of software, it’s a shame as I like the Kraken AIO. It loses the smart device from time to time, loses its settings. The best thing I have found is set it and try not touch settings again.
Tip - For those installing the MSI X399 Creation Board, you may get a Blue Screen error when you first start it up. It’s due to a bug with the WiFi Drivers. You’ll need to download the Intel drivers (not MSI) and choose Load Driver Option when doing WIN10 install. Just google search and you’ll find some instructions. Do Not update later to the MSI WiFi Drivers, it recreates the issue.
