General Hello All!

First of all, I wanted to make a red color themed build. The CPU cooler, however, has a blue light on it, which actually turned out to be pretty bright! So I went ahead and mounted a blue case fan above it to make a "water corner" of the box. XD One thing I ran into to when building was after all my hardware was installed and the machine posted, I realized my GPU wasn't working. As you can see from the pictures, I forgot to give it power, hehe. Besides that, this was a very successful build and I am happy with it as it was my first build!

I've always been a console gamer, but consoles have their limits. I was looking to build something that could surpass the graphics of my Xbox One, could be used for schoolwork (I included this for my mom), and run virtual environments.

This was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I think I am on the infinite loop of upgrading the system with the latest and greatest. I'm already looking at custom wiring to make the insides look neater. It was cool to learn about a lot of the hardware involved (I'm more of the software developer type) and get everything working straight away. Looking forward to being the point of jealousy among my friends once I move back to school. :P

I can upload more pictures and benchmarks if anyone at all is interested.

Please let me know if you see anything extremely weird, wired wrong, placed backwards, or potentially a fire hazard because again I'm new at this! Thanks! :)

Part Reviews

Solid CPU. Thought about upgrading to an i7, but should be able to overclock this to surpass my needs.

CPU Cooler

The classic hyper 212 would not fit in the Cosmos S, so I decided to go with this puppy. Was easy to install and I actually love the way it looks. Keeps the CPU cool and should be suitable for some overclocking.

Got it with the CPU at a discount from Micro Center. Everything is nicely labeled. Only negative is the lack of fan headers. 3 is not enough, but with the fan controller this wasn't an issue. Good board for OCing.

It's RAM! It works. Bought 16 GB because I like to create virtual environments.

Bought this just to install the OS and possibility a few apps for quick boot times. Went with the cheapest one and bought Micro Center's 2 year replacement plan because as I hear these things are disposable around the 2 year time frame. Hopefully in 2 years technology will advance and my next SSD will have a longer TTL.

Durable HD, should get a lot of use out of it.

Video Card

Said "eh" to my initial budget and went with the 390. With 8gb of RAM I can max out the settings on most games. (GTA goes up to 6 gigs). Looks amazing can't wait to try it out with some of the planned releases!

Got this case for free from a co-worker. It was very easy to build in (being a full tower). There were not a lot of holes for cable management, but that wasn't really an issue with so much space to spare. Wish it has a window, but the 200mm side fan really does a good job keeping the internals cool. For the low price of $0 I couldn't not use this case. It did take longer to dust this thing out than it did to build the PC, though...

Power Supply

Fully modular made it easy to manage cables. It works.

Fan Controller

Bought this because the motherboard only had 3 fan headers and i wanted to include 5 total on the case. Works great!

I love these things. We've been through a lot together. I bought these a few years ago when I was into competing in Call of Duty tournaments on Xbox 360 and have zero complaints. They're comfy, the surround sound is on point, and are durable as hell.

The problem MAY have been that it sticks out too far and would have made contact with that side fan, but I'm not sure. I'm not a huge fan of it either, but hey it was free

So true. It can become an addiction. :)
