Description

NOTE

The GPU and PSU in those pictures are components I owned previously, and used for testing purposes. The EVGA 760s are no longer used, I purchased a Galax GTX 980 HOF. PCPartPicker didn't have the right color edition of it in their database, but it's the Teclab version.

This is the very first machine I have built. I got the name from one of my friends who had built 5 computers, and mine being the sixth. I built it myself with him on a phone call.

Processor

Gave me no issues, Seems like I hit the silicon lottery, as it overclocks rather well with the core voltage under 1.3 ( have it set at 1.27)

CPU Cooler

Had some hassle. Apparently the h105 needs to have the pump set to "always on" or 100% so it doesn't die prematurely. I did this, only after trial and error finding what fan header I had it plugged into because I'm an idiot.

Thermal Compound

Thermal compound was purchased for "future proofing" if I ever need to re-seat the CPU.

Motherboard

Motherboard came and worked first try. No issues.

Memory

G.SKILL needs to get their stuff together. I had to RMA the sticks because one arrived dead.

Storage

The 950 pro is the best SSD I've ever owned, topping write speeds of over 2000mb/s. Windows is installed to it. HDD is for games. Expected performance from Western digital.

Graphics

I had a 760 from my old computer, so I just got another one. These GPUS are AMAZING. I don't see why you need 980s and such. 2 of these can run GTA V 60 fps on max settings. The only thing I regret is not getting the 4gb version when I purchased the first one.

I was such a nub.

That was with my old monitor. 1920x1080 was too much for even both of the cards in sli. I now run a GTX 980 from our friends at Galax, and I'm quite happy with it. Everything is crushed by the card, and I haven't had any issues since installing. The cord you see hanging off of it is the boost button, it wouldn't fit unless I unscrew it. It still works, just not accessible by the rear of the card. I don't use it anyway, the thing only makes the fans go at full RPMS and be really annoying.

Case

Cooler master made a good choice with this. I like the customization, and it was EXTREMELY easy to assemble the computer. I (once again) was stupid and struggled to find the screws box. (Located in the case basement in a HDD mount.)

Power supply

Corsair is so good. So good. I had to use an old PSU I had because this didn't come right away, but worth the wait.

Did you get cat hair in the case?

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

Surprisingly, no! The filters on the Mastercase are brilliant!

Squishbean1 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

Lol, ok. I guess it will be okay if your cat lays on it in the future.

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

It's always ok. I don't care about the hair, If it gets bad I'll just clean it. I like my cat sitting next to me, It's adorable.

Where can I find one of those sinking Titanic desk ornaments? I like it. Also, great build!

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

I got that for Christmas. I am not sure, I'll find out. Thanks for the comment!

Looks awesome! The 950 Pro sure is an awesome SSD. In the future I might get one or the next generation NVME SSDs to use in my new build.

commodore64 3 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

Might as well just go with NVME. Whilst people say that the difference between it and SATA 3 is minimal, we aren't going back to SATA technology anytime soon..

SpecificAlduin 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

Yeah, NVME is a bit more expensive though, and myx99-ud3p doesn't have a PCIe 3.0 m.2 slot so I will have to get a riser card.

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

It was SO worth it. Windows boots in about 20-25 seconds.

McGoob 1 point 37 months ago

Slacker cat... geez

mlach 4 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

At least he's keeping warm on top of the toaster

Artor101 1 point 37 months ago

Your cat is better that you isn't he/she?

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 2 points 37 months ago

She. She likes the 40 degrees of nice warm air being blown into her belly. I think it's rather cute.

You can remain at 60 fps in GTA V using maximum settings with a 760 SLI?? Max settings @1080p uses almost 4GB VRM with Anti-Aliasing turned off... My OC'ed 4790k + 770 SLI can't even manage half decent settings because of the 2GB VRM limitations... I'm sensing something may not be accurate... What resolution are you running?

teambronze5 1 point 37 months ago

Where I'm getting my numbers, other than from personal experience.

Wolfemane 7 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

I like tweaktown, and I appreciate their tests. It goes a long way in showing what a game at MAX settings is going to consume. The irritating thing about those reviews is they don't show any additional performance numbers so its almost impossible to understand what those graphs really represent in performance.

With a 4gb and 6gb card of similar quality running GTA5 at maxed settings, what are the FPS like? The Fury X shows a bit better performance to the GTX 980 at multiple resolutions in GTA5 and there is a 2gb difference there (DDR5 vs HBM most likely). http://www.anandtech.com/show/9390/the-amd-radeon-r9-fury-x-review/22

anyways super tangent.

+1 on build. love it. GO Sabertooth!

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

Sabertooth x99 is best motherboard

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

Currently 1600x1200. Stupid dell monitors. I plan to get a better monitor and a Pascal GPU later on. For now, this works! :D

teambronze5 2 points 37 months ago

That makes more sense why 760's are so great for that!

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

Indeed!

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

At time I had edited the description improperly. I had the 980 at that point. Sorry about that.

Braok 1 point 37 months ago

I was gonna get 950 Pro, I ended up getting another 1/4 speed SSD : (

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

It is worth it. Remember that next time.

mlach 4 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

The only thing I regret is not getting the 4gb version when i purchased the first one.

I'm pretty sure this is why we get 980s and such, to actually make use of the 4gb of vram. ;)

TechyinAZ 14 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

In SLI it should be able to use at least 3GB. But this is kepler were talking about, so I'm not sure if the memory bus would be able to handle 4GB anyways.

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

Kepler sucks for 1080p but it works well for my resolution, 1600x1200

Furrior 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

Do you feel the extra fur helps with temps? And what gigaPURRS can you get out of that baby?

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

ITS OVER 9000!!

+1 for the Cat! btw nice pc

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

The cat is the only thing that matters, always :3

CrazedGunner 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

CATS!! +1

Christian9040 submitter 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

YAS!

TechyinAZ 14 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

I know that irritating with the H105, as I have one myself. I finally just put it into the CPU header since temps will rise WAY faster if the pump stops over the fans quiting.

Also, you don't exactly have to run it at 100% I've been running it at 1750RPM (default is 1850) and it gives me no issues.
