Description

In December 2014 I started to upgrade my DDR2 computer (http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/b/PWzMnQ) into something better. And well frankly it changed a lot (completed build to come in a near future). I'm tweaking the fan setup at the moment and I'm not satified with my ssd setup. once it's fixed, I'll post on pcpp.

So I had more parts availble into the spare bins and I knew I would never use them again so I made a pc with parts from my DDR2 rig and other misc parts.

Prices: this time I didn't use ''historical pricing'' which means that I considered the price I paid to put up together the computer. If it's a part I had in my bins, the price is 0$ and same goes if it comes from a previously completed build showcased here. If I had to buy it to add to the parts list, price is shown.

CPU: Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition. All has been said about this monster; running at stock speed.

CPU Cooler: the Hyper T2 was a nice suprise to me! I'm really pleased with it. Con: for the AMD socket it faces upward only. I'm glad I had a case with top vents.

Mobo: Excellent mobo, old design, recent feature, it's only 1 year old only, it was part of my December 2014 overhaul. Didn't last long!!

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws ram, low latency. Mobo+cpu goes up to DDR3-1333 but it was cheap when I bought it (summer 2014) about 20-25$ CAD

Storage: old drive I had, more than 5 years if I remember. It won't last long, pretty beaten up in my opinion. Maybe 2-6 months.

GPU: from local ads, seemed a very decent card. Packs a good performance hindered by the small vram at only 512mb

PSU: I know it's not a top tier brand but it's recent, less than 2 years of light use. I t will hold up very well with this rig. And on the plus side, it'll be out of my inventory!

ODD: thrown in some random pata drives I had. it worked! I installed windows with it. One combo, one CD-RW.

wifi USB 2 N150, standard.

1x turbine from my 4 pack from Congar, love them

1x silverstone fan, very good fan in my opinion. I already have all the fans I need, so why not let it go and make somebody happy.

1x 3.5'' front panel usb 3.0 to get this rig up to the lastest usb standards! Old case was born before usb 3 anyways.

OS: original dvd with original key, oem version pre-SP1 (2009), sticker on the case.

Sold in less than 2 weeks for 250$. It's dirt cheap but it's money in my pocket. And the market is so full of used computers.

Apart from the really low quality PSU, I like this alot. I love older parts still in use. I have a Phenom 2 x2 550BE (unlocks to an x4 B50) that I've mean to put to use.

I missed on a combo 550BE + mobo by 2 days only. I wanted to sell this rig before I buy anything else. your comment makes me sad that I missed it :(

Yeah I know about the Thermaltake. A fews ago I had NO idea about their quality.

edit: thanks to pcpp for all the learning

Not ALL 550BE's unlock. Some have dud cores. I got lucky and mine does, but requires a tiny bit more voltage to be stable. I miss the days of unlockable power.

well this particular gpu was bought earlier this summer for the sole reason that it was cheap (20$ cad) considering the power it packs. I didn't mean to game BF4 on it though BF3 would be perfectly fine (with less texture). I wanted a good gpu for my older systems. Looks like it went with the 955BE to make it more appealing. The onboard graphic is HD4200 so the gpu is better and makes it more look like a decent semi gaming rig, for older games that is. Or stuff that doesn't require cutting edge gpu!
