Description

I built this computer back in the spring of 2011, though I have made a few upgrades here and there. I added the M500 in May 2014 and the 270X in June 2014.

I just upgraded from my Rosewill Redbone to the NZXT S340. It is such a huge jump! In the Redbone, I used to get horrible CPU temperatures from the horrible airflow. I would idle at >40°C, but now I idle at 35°C. My temperatures at load were nearly 63°C, but now they're at maybe 51°C. I can actually try to overclock my CPU instead of merely undervolting it now!

We're losing her! Screwdriver stat...She's flat-lining...Paddles...Clear...She Lives! Transplant successful! Nice job especially on title lol.

Cleaning the mesh filter of the Redbone probably would've helped with the airflow....

I was already getting those high temperatures as soon as I built my PC and tried to overclock. Temperatures haven't changed much over the years as dust built up, though I do concede that I didn't do a good job taking care of dust! I would like to note that this case is much louder since I don't have a fan controller and I'm running these new fans at 100%, so that may be a part of the temperature drop.

That dust miiiiiight have been the cause of the poor airflow. I read reviews about it a while back while searching for a case it's supposed to be quite well cooled for a budget case. Anyhoo, moving on. Nice job with keeping the cables out of view! Cable-less internal area for the win.

I also posted this build on /r/cablemanagement, and another person says "it was a cable management hell." I've never really liked the Redbone.

Thanks for the complements otherwise!

No prob. Yeah, The Redbone may have a few small perks, but the crap cable management options was definitely one of the features that nixed it for my list when I was considering it a while back (gone with Fractal instead, woot). Plus, it's not the most attractive thing ever xP.

Only the case can't change that much degrees since your old case have front, rear and side fan holes. On the other hand NZXT looks more beautiful :)

The fans in my old case were rather weak. I only had two fans in it as I do now, but they seemed to push a lot less air than my current case. It may be that my current case is running at 100% fan speed the entire time, though, because I don't have PWM fans in this case. The side fan holes in my Redbone didn't do much since I couldn't fit a side fan. Thanks for the complements otherwise!
