Description

So this is my first build :) CPU- Went for the i5-4690k, overclock possibility, great for games and great for daily tasks. Mobo- MSI Z97-G45 Gaming (got a really nice deal for this mobo with the case so I went for it). HDD- Barracuda, nothing special here, getting a ssd soon. Ram- 8gb 1600, didnt need anything faster but if I do feel the need I can get another pair of 8gb. GPU- MSI GTX 970, the 980 was too expensive for me but this one if damn good too. Does all I need and it says super cool and silent. Case- NZXT H440,got a deal with this case, LOVE THIS CASEEE :D PSU- Cooler Master G750M 80 Bronze (not the one listed) it was the only psu available here.

if you went budget, you could have saved money on the case and get a cpu cooler instead...

Well it does great in DayZ Standalone even tho it is poorly optimized.. In arma also does well but you should get a ssd, sometimes the game has some choopy periods of time because of my hard drive

If I could suggest something, you should get an aftermarket heatsink like a hyper 212 evo, or h100i (if you wanna spend more) so you can overclock that I5, nice build by the way

  • 1 point

thanks, I am getting the hyper 212 evo this week, and Im gonna save for the noctua or the h100i to get later. thanks :)

why do people actually overclock cpus there is barely a difference in terms of GAMING

For a budget build, this is outright impressive! Seeing a lot of that case on the website, but it seems like an awesome one nonetheless.

  • 1 point

Yeah if you are looking to overclock it to a max go for the gigabyte one if not this one is cheaper and is really sexy too :D

If you are an overclocker then I recommend the Gigabyte 970 OC version. Supposedly JayzTwoCents got one up to 1500 MHz on its stock air cooler. Not to mention Gigabyte coolers are known to be the best in the business if you are going stock. However the MSI 870 is also a very good and well cooled card, it just has less headroom

  • 3 points

Gigabyte coolers are definitely not the best in the business, they never have any baseplates to cool the VRM's and mosfets and they rely on the all in one heavy copper contact plate to cool everything off. At least EVGA, MSI and ASUS applies a seperate base plate to cool all the components and modules. They are pretty long and they usually are not compatible in smaller form factor cases without removing the hard drive catties. The new design completely shuts off the ventilation holes on the IO plate making it impossible for any access to air to exit through the back so you will have to heavily rely on the airflow in the case.

The only difference I see here which is better with the new G1 Gaming Windforce cooler is the slightly bigger fans with grooves to direct more airflow and a more aggressive shroud and backplate.

MSI is still an good option for overcloking too. People were able to overclock it to 1400-1500+ also on the MSI.

  • 1 point

Yeah its so damn sexy, now I place the msi sticker and it gets even nicer, the only thing missing here is leds or something :) But if you are going to do a computer think about this case I mean I had no trouble using it so far!

I think you can include better pics by opening up the arcylic windowed side panel.

Or get a polarizing filter for your camera. It'll cut reflections down so much. And hell, if you don't own a professional camera, those filters are easy to hold in front of an iPhone and reasonably cheap.

  • 1 point

yeah I've got better pictures now just too lazy to upload them XD

  • 1 point

Despite the terrible pictures i like your build big +1 Could you tell me please, -what made you settle for the msi gtx 970? -how is the psu performing? Are you about to OC? Cheers

  • 1 point

I mean I chose the MSI GTX because I also have a msi mobo and I loved the colors and price :P Overclock, havent done anything yet sorry. the psu is working nice until now its not the one listed, the one I have is one from cooler master 750 bronze semi modular

  • 1 point

Thanks for your reply! And how is it performance wise(970)? What games do you play?

  • 1 point

I play: CSGO Arma 3 Arma 2 BF4 and a few more it performs super nice for the price, I might overclock it to get better resutls :)

  • 1 point

The msi 970 is not a 'settle' card it is unbelievably good the OC is insane easily rivalling the gigabyte 970 and its about £30 less over here in UK

  • 1 point

I've meant "decided to buy that". Wrong word usage.

  • 1 point

Nice build all and all, though we need to help you with that second picture. I would take the side of the tower off and retake it, this would let is see the guts of the machine and the cable management :). Still get a +1 for a great first build.

Yes saving up to get a decent one

Look's kind of silly having all these high quality parts and then just the stock CPU cooler. Doesn't really bother me but there are definitely people laughing on the inside when they view this build. Especially considering you have one of the new 970's.

  • 2 points

lol would you prefer to buy a 760 just to get a after market cooler from the start, Im going to purchase one in 1-2 weeks considering I dont have a job its ok for me. I dont think I even need the cooler for now.

  • 1 point

No I totally messed up, I thought you were some random person messaging me. I forgot about this thread, sorry man. But yeah, get that cooler !

Yeah sorry sometimes english just messes with me, what Im saying is, If I wanted to get the cooler I would have to get a lower end gpu and since I will be able to purchase a cooler pretty soon I thought it was ok to way 1-2 weeks. But yes Im planning on getting one as soon as possible.

Nice overall build but the lack of SSD pains me! Go buy one! :)

  • 1 point

yeah future plans cpu cooler and ssd

  • 1 point

What do ya get in arma 2?

  • 1 point

I dont know, all max over 30 fps everywhere, in cherno it never got down bellow 25

  • 1 point

If you can you should overclock the I5 to like 4.0 If you do have a CPU Cooler and you have enough wattage so why not do it.

$1000 and a stock cooler really...

  • 1 point

I would have no money for the 970. priorities. It runs nice with the stock cooler for now, getting a decent/cheap cooler soon as well as a ssd

  • 1 point

I am building this EXACT same build in about 2 weeks! So weird that we decided on the same parts! what games do you play and what frames do you get? any regrets?

  • 1 point

Yes I regret I didnt get a ssd and a cooler from the start, the rest is fine! What games do you play?
