Built this for my mom. At thanksgiving she was complaining about the dell I bought her 5 years ago being too slow. Also tried to log into WoW on that and it's no longer playable on grammy's pc...so the obvious solution was a budget rig that can do some light gaming when the grand kids (and their dads) are visiting grandma.
CPU- benchmarks higher than my 5 year old core i7 so why not for 80 bucks? Single threaded performance seems a little subpar but overall fine and gets granny 4 cores on the cheap.
Cooler - whatever's cheap
Mobo- $47? Yes pls! Board seems great and is pcie v3
Memory - cheap goodness
SSD - granny need ssd as main problem we were solving here was sluggishness
GPU- gets 70-90 fps in wow at 1080p on ultra so yeah, for $89? Not that granny even knows WoW comes pre-installed on this rig.... ;-)
Case- for $12 im not asking any questions- it's a case with a power button
PSU- try not to skimp here- name brand and enough wattage with a rebate
ASUS DVD- go cheap - who cares? As long as it plays granny's Adirondack sampler cd
Fan- had to get a PWM fan as the one that came with this case was loud with unbridled fan rpms - made noise go from unacceptable to zero. Even granny would have complained about that fan noise but what do you expect for a $12 case?
Future upgradable here too because of the pcie 3, not that we'll see decent processors for the FM2+ socket down the road but who knows....worst case is ill need to swap out mobo but then I like building these things so that's a plus.
