Description

This computer is used for internet browsing over the big screen. The goal for this HTPC was to be as quiet as possible and as energy efficient as possible. To hear these fans spin, you have to put your head right next to them, otherwise you will not hear it. As for temps, the stay icy cold. the GPU gets as hot as 35 degrees Celsius while browsing. I downloaded heaven to see what the max temp would be and after 5 rounds plus a benchmark, the hottest this GPU got up to was 61 degrees Celsius. (Thats including an overclock). As for power consumption, the computer draws 30 watts from the wall at idol, 45 while watching a youtube video, and peaks at 80 while watching heaven benchmark.

Part Reviews

CPU

Nice low watt cpu that gets the job done for internet browsing.

CPU Cooler

Keeps the cpu cold. Hottest the cpu gets under full load is 25 degrees Celsius at 2.1 ghz. Best part is it is very energy efficient and silent due to being passive!

Motherboard

Nice motherboard with a lot of fancy features such as usb 3.0. It also has enough fan slots to finish the job.

Memory

Great ram for a great price. Gives me room to buy another one in the future for more ram if operating systems become more demanding.

Storage

Nice ssd for the price. Boots windows quickly and silently.

Video Card

Great gpu for the money. It also stays cool despite a 60 MHz overclock on the core and 125 MHz on the memory. Idols at 28 degrees Celsius. Browsing the internet and youtube brings it up to 35 degrees Celsius. The hottest it ever ran at was 61 after one hour of Heaven benchmark.

Case

Nice small case that works perfectly for a passive pc. You can attach low rpm fans on the side of the case in which is right above the passive components.

Power Supply

Great power supply for the money. It also is great because it is semi-modular. That means there are fewer cables lying around in this pc. That can make a noticeable difference in a pc where everything is passively cooled and requires case air flow to keep everything cool.

Operating System

Its windows on the cheap. Happy to have friends that are willing to work with me.

Wireless Network Adapter

Great wifi card for the money. It keep a constant reception despite being far away from the router.

Case Fan

Great case fans for people who want to have a quiet pc. I bought 3 to keep my passively cooled system silent. They do not disappoint. The only way to hear them is to stick your head next to the case. Then you can barely hear the 3 fans spinning away.

Keyboard

Love having this small and slim wired keyboard and mouse in one. Its easy to use and move around. It also easy to use. Only thing that was weird about it is the keys press a little differently than most other keyboards whether they were mechanical or not. This does not bother me too much though because I am mostly watching videos or reading articles on the big screen with this computer.

Silence is so nice when all I want to do is just read articles or watch a movie/video. less distractions help make it more immersive.

I hope I am answering your question correctly. I had a copy of windows 8 lying around, so I used it and upgraded to 10. Otherwise I would have used Linux. As for what it is hooked up to, I have a 40 inch TV and a 5.1 surround sound system. (4 towers, 1 center, 1 8 inch sub)

There isn't any way currently to use a remote to navigate a HTPC?

I think the best we can get is an Xbox or PS controller to use with select apps like Steam. Other than that we are stuck with a wireless mouse/keyboard.
