Description

This classic white and black build (The Storm Trooper) was my first ever full build. I switched from a 2013 iMac which was getting long in the tooth. I primarily do video editing using Adobe Premiere and other Adobe products for creativity. This i9-9900k build is lights out! The speed on this rig is amazing. My productivity has increased by 50%....or more.

The big concern that I had going into this build was the thermals of the i9-9900k. I purchased a Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L thinking that I might have to upgrade to something like a Noctua air cooler. Thus far heat has not been an issue at all. I don't indent to doing any overclocking so I think I will be fine. My build time was about 6 to 7 hours over about three days (two hours a day). I took my time going back and forth between the manuals and youtube videos...which I started watching months before my actual build date. Watching the youtube videos vs. actually putting things together is a very different experience. You guys make it look so easy. I just wanted to ensure all of the components played together nicely and that nothing was damaged. The biggest challenge was cable identification and cable navigation. Weaving cables, wires and pin heads into spaces that almost seem to small to fit to a bit of patience.

The greatest joy however, was when I finally plugged everything in and hit the power button...and it all worked!!!! That moment alone was worth the three days wait.

Hello - new to building here. About to embark on my first PC build since 2004. I am also building an editing computer. What does your comment mean?

I meant that a 9900k would bottleneck with a RTX 2070 a tiny bit, but then I saw your description which said you were video editing with it, so I apologized.

Video editing requires CPU power than GPU power, so you need a strong CPU rather than a strong GPU

Remember to install the Nvidia Creator/Studio drivers as they are more cooperative with the Adobe suite than "Game Ready" drivers.
