Description

Disclaimer - I'm sorry you're even viewing this ratchet build. Please, save yourself the time and view literally anything else.

  • So, I was interested in a streaming rig. Come Christmas time, i'll be looking for Ryzen components to freshen this build up.

  • Back story - the motherboard/cpu was given to me for free from a family member because it was giving him issues. He upgraded to Ryzen and didn't need this. Upon first glance, it'd been littered with dust (view the pics with the memory and cpu installed on it - this was BEFORE the cleaning), it needed a bath to get everything off it. Clumps all over. I expected this knowing he has cats, dogs, indoor ducks, and an indoor goat named Roger (no joke - he baaaaaaahs in my cousins mic when we game together - content).

  • I had 16gb of DDR3 that's in perfect condition, then found an old *** Cooler Master I had sitting around for years. This cooler is beyond sketch. Like, it looks like the first concept of a cpu cooler that ever existed. Even the 'Cooler Master' logo on each side is in a font that looks obsolete itself. It's loud and ugly. But it spins.

  • The AMD FX-8350 is still an 8 core processor that's working OK so far. It booted into windows install no problem. Literally not a single hiccup with the install, I was suprised.

  • The mobo is a mini-itx board, fit into an H500. Looks like a 700 pound person lost 500 pounds and now has this loose skin floating around on it. Could be worse though. This allows for decent cable management. I had two fans left over, installed one on top and one on the rear. Hope this doesn't blow up.

  • The 1050 ti was left over from a previous build, and it's actually perfect for a budget (free) streaming rig. Also, no vga cables allows for more cable managing.

  • I only need around 300-400 watts, I had a 650 watt psu left over, so that went into it. Way overkill for my needs, but it turns everything on as needed.

  • Tonight will be benchmark night, will test out streaming with it as well.

  • I guess I could have put pricing in to reflect the general cost of everything upon first purchase, but they are old and I'd rather brag about a free FX build, than a bought FX build in 2018 ;)

  • Realistically, this shouldn't perform too well. It was an expensive cpu back in 2012, but nowadays, it's obsolete. If I can get it to run light stream sessions for the time being, I'll be satisfied.

  • Side note - Compatibility Issue: H500 uses a 3.0 usb front panel header while the mobo doesn't support usb 3.0. Not a problem.

Great value build!

I would only suggest to get a better mainboard - there are plenty of great second hand Sabertooth 990FX R2.0, M5A99X EVO R2.0 and GA-990FXA-UD3 R4.0/4.1/5.

Cheers.

Thanks bud.

Won't spend any money on it as it's only got to last me until Christmas time. Also, part of the point of building this is because I didn't spend a dime on it ;)

Thanks for the feedback!

If you need more performance, get RGB everything. It will make your cpu perform like i9 9900k and gpu perform like 2080ti

Phildilf submitter 3 Builds 1 point 4 days ago

Damn, good to know. Is it true that if I get RGB fans, I can overclock to 8.0 ghz?

fatpigeon 3 points 4 days ago

I can confirm. Adding unicorn barf makes fans spin faster as they try to flee, screaming in terror.

I really like it! Great value here.

I think it'll look perfectly fine if you blow out some of the dust with compressed air.

Phildilf submitter 3 Builds 1 point 4 days ago

Should've clarified, it was dusty when I received it. The first picture that shows the entire build is it cleaned off.

Dude! You have the same CPU, same gpu, and essentially the same type of RAM that's in my primary desktop....lol. Honestly, the cpu is great. Granted, mine is overclocked and liquid cooled, but I have no problem getting 60+ fps in GTA V on high settings. The 8350 holds up pretty well for its age. This is kickass for a free build!

That's crazy, thanks for the information!

It was just built last night. I still need to dial everything in.

dasauceboss 2 Builds 1 point 4 days ago

Yeah, there's a significant amount of potential there - but like you said, if you don't want to put any more money in it/only need it for a bit, it's probably not worth it to maximize your performance on this rig.

It beats Celeron.

As they should :)

I used to have that CPU. Could heat up my room in the winter with that thing...good times.

Also Your build looks pretty good. If U ask me, it is not ugly enough. Step up your ketchup and mustard cable game.

I'm happy you were able to get this build together with no cost. Good luck with your planned future upgrades.

ChodicusPrime 1 point 2 days ago

Despite everything being...what it is...It actually looks very well maintained. Its nice not seeing a pile of cable spaghetti.
