Description

I use this rig mainly for Editing and high fps games like Doom, Dirt 3, Forza 6 Apex, Battlefield 4, battlefield 1 and other big title games all at highest setting available. This machine is a beast. I also do a lot of bench marking with my cpu and gpu to beat my PB.
I have my CPU running at 5ghz @ 1.300v on the nose stable as my daily, but can hit 5.2ghz stable and peak at 5.245ghz but that where I hit the oc ceiling. I've not delided the cpu yet but its in the works.

Looks great! I'm getting a strong Alien vibe from the green LED industrial look of the first few photos.

You would be right too buddy, as it is based on the Borg from Star Trek Voyager.

Why not get a 1080ti?

I owned a 1080 Strix already, if anything I would have bought another strix 1080, but I didn't need another 1080 when the card I have has all triple A games pegged at ultra setting anyway. This time round I was just changing the look of my build as I wasn't that happy with my previous build.

I didn't get a 1080ti because I bought the strix 1080 on release so no ti cards available at the time.

Because when I bought my 1080 strix there wasn't any 1080ti released at the time.

For this kind of money why wouldn't you get a 1080 ti instead of such an expensive mobo?

I had the mobo already but no loop, I was torn between getting a 1080ti or a Loop. I already owned a 1080 and this I put on the same Loop. Plus Ive only had my 1080 about a 6 months or so and not really finished with it just yet as it is a really good card for OC, and I'm thinking of just buying another Asus Strix 1080 to compliment the one I have already and that way I will out perform a 1080ti and for less. A lot of the parts in the build I already had like cpu, ram, mobo, M.2 and gpu, and the Eisbaer 360 AIO, I just changed my case, bought all the new corsair HD120s and 140s, along with the commander pro and Node pro. I bought extra quick connect tubing and a full cover GPU block from Alphacool for the Eisbaer 360 AIO to tie it all in. Its a build that's just been progressing slowly. So its not all been spent at once but over 14 months or so. Some of the parts I wasn't so keen on anymore like the NZXT Aer fans, they're ok and quiet but wasn't keen on the Leds, a bit jerky in motion.

i wouldn't go with another 1080 in sli. In my opinion I would sell the 1080 and just get a 1080 ti. A lot of games still don't support SLI so it will be a big waste. As of the near future I would say the ti will be better than SLI. Maybe one day SLI will be worth it but not now. SLI just looks pretty sweet, but won't perform how you think.

If I get another 1080 it's for benchmarking more than gaming. Plus 2 cards look better than one. Lol.

I bought the mobo, GPU, cpu and ram all at once, the strix 1080 had only just come out and was dear enough, and coming from x2 Asus strix 970's was quite the upgrade. I wasn't thinking 1080ti at the time because they hadn't been released yet.

Because I'm a Overclocker and having a water block for the VRM built in was a big plus , it allowed my 7700k to OC to 5.210ghz, without the Crosschill vrm block only 5ghz, And I really liked the look of the ROG board, and at the time the 1080ti wasn't yet released only 1080's

Was it intentionally Borg themed? Love the way the tubing replicates the Borg tubing look!

Not to begin with, but I hadn't decided on the name and it was only after I built it and was going through the RGB colours that I looked at it in Green and thought, BORG straight away, and been a Star trek fan and watching all the StarTrek Voyager's it was a no brainer really and "LOCUTAS" was borg, I mean Born, Resistance is futile.

Honestly no, it just turned out that way. I wasn't so keen on the look of the tubing with all that anti-kink stuff, then I was watching Star Trek "Enterprise" and what should come on but Picard has Locutus the Borg. Job done got my new name and started to like the tubing.

Nice!

Please tell me how you are liking that alphacool eisbaer 360 AIO. I’m thinking about getting one for my 8700k/1080ti buil. My 1080 ti is a hybrid so it comes with AIO. But I was gonna use it to cool 8700k. Temps?

The Eisbaer is a beast. I got the 360 version. I'm so happy with it. It gives same temps as a full custom loop.

It was till I broke it 3 weeks ago changing out the old fluid, I took off the quick connects to flush them out and over tightened them and you know the rest, Lucky for me I leak tested out of the system so no damage done. other than my Deflated EGO. lol

Mate I love it, takes care of business really well, but in my own stupidity I broke it by over tightening the fitting after changing fluids and flushing out the hoses, but its ok I got a new pump head on the way as we speak.
