I had a few extra dollars lying around and I decided to build my dream workstation after completing my CS degree. My plans for this build are software development, 3D modeling, ethical hacking, and running game theory simulations. It took me a few weeks to workout the hiccups with the motherboard because it was designed for stand alone servers. I choose the motherboard because it had everything I needed and plus I wanted to run dual xeons just to try something different. I had a few issues with RAM because I wanted the flashy stuff but none of it was compatible because I did not read the small print (if you guys plan on using a server motherboard make sure you get ECC RAM).

Nice build. But I’m still confused why you said “A Few extra dollars laying around” This is not a few extra dollars, this is a lot of money lol

When I have a "few extra dollars" I may treat myself to Chipotle, not a fkn spaceship

Upvoted for using xeon cpu and looking like a god damn rocketship.

Sick Workstation PC.

Do you only have two RAM modules installed?

Yeah, I only have 2 installed right now due to troubleshooting. I wanted to make sure they were compatible and everything worked fine before I ordered more.

360mm AIO for a locked Xeon that has a TDP of 85w and might pull 120w

and yeah you need ECC memory for Xeon CPUs, any form of compatibility filter would flag that

enricko7 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

I think cpu/chipset combo dictates ECC compatibility, not just CPU.

BetrayedPredator 1 point 5 months ago

Its both

Some chipsets support both

Nater650 1 point 5 months ago

280mm not 360mm

Same difference

Curious if you could run GPU Passthrough on your Arch system with one of those Quadros, and if you don't need the error code 43 workaround.

Curious how the P4000's perform and what workload you are putting them under. I was thinking about running two myself to make an 8 monitor single display.

Money? What's that? You mean these firestarters?
