This is not a de-build log nor is it a build log but merely a show and tell session, so let me start it...
This is my grandfathers current editing machine for light to medium load photography and videos. It's no powerhouse by modern standards but back in the day it kicked like a bat out of hell. No overclocking here but since it was a stock cooler I did drop the voltage a little to cool it slightly (Dropped temps by 2C just by undervolting).
Oh and yes as always with an old system... since half the stuff in here isn't on PCPP I had fun with the parts list
Yes the motherboard has 6 dimm slots because 4 is too mainstream and too little and 8 is too many. AND WHO NEEDS THE SAME TYPE OF RAM ANYWAY?!? Screw color combination, screw matching, lets get a blue MoBo, Green and silver RAM and a GPU Cooler that is so small it doesn't matter the color!
And the cables? HOT DOG THEME!!! Brown PCB's and a red/yellow cables makes for a great bun and ketchup/mustard. Besides, this comes form the glory days of cable management meaning you can close the side panel without ripping and tearing cables.
This badass is still running on Windows XP because, and I quote my grandfather...
My printer is so Bleeping old that Microsoft no longer supports it and drivers stopped coming out after 7, and I don't want to buy a new printer.
I can say that I gamed on this rig for a while as well and it surprisingly pulled anywhere from 45-75 (That delta thou) on BF3 maxxed out 1080p, fps depending on the map and if there was literally a single explosion happening anywhere. External drives are there because 500Gb goes fast, like really fast.
(Also Ignore the trashy desk)
if you read this far down congrats you get a story, So I was charginy my phone on the front USB header and was like
WTF why is this so slow?
So I unplugged it and trued a flash drive... Was even slower OK, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS USB 1.0?!? (At the time I had no idea) I look at the mobo and the connector is just fine, Plug in the Flash drive again and still the shotty speed was there. At this point I was getting kinda angry and was like "Maybe the header is bad". So I looked a the header and BOOM! It told me USB 1.0 and I just started laughing, realizing I made a USB 1,0 Header joke AT an actual USB 1.0 header.
