Description

Very happy with how this build turned out. I basically wanted to make the best ITX I could pack in the NZXT h200i. I didn't take very many pictures during the build process unfortunately.. I was too excited to put it together :)

Build comments:

  • I opted to break my cpu warranty and delid my i7-8700k. I used a kit to remove the heatsink so everything was fairly easy besides feeling monkaS when applying the liquid metal.

  • The ASUS Strix 1080ti barely fits as it's a 2.5 slot GPU lol. I had bought it for my previous pc and wanted to carry it over. Sooo, there is basically no clearance between gpu and psu shroud. It pretty much rests over the separate white strip of the shroud. Fans make a lot of noise because of it. Playing Fortnite on Max settings runs it at 85-87c, which is pretty high. This is with the fans running at 40% btw.

  • There is also 1cm between my gpu and the NZXT kraken cooler fans. So for those wondering, yes it does fit (barely).

  • Installing everything else non-RGB was a breeze.

  • RGB was a pain to maneuver, being an itx build and all. Wiring all the rgb through the top left corner and fitting all on the back panel took quite a while to sort out. Also, the custom white EVGA cables are meant for bigger build so they are kinda coiled up like snakes inside the PSU shroud. The usb hub and Hue+ are also nestled in there.

  • RGB was a bit more costly than I initially thought because you need to buy an additional Hue+ on top of the integrated case Smart Hub. I let the NZXT case Smart Hub control the led strips, and the Hue+ control the fans. You also need the NZXT usb hub to connect them all.

  • To control the RGB, you have to use two separate software. NZXT CAM software to control fans + led strips and ASUS AURA to control mobo+gpu. You can still sync them up fairly close.

I started a twitch channel and would appreciate the follow ;) it's mostly Fortnite and the Magic Arena Beta right now. https://www.twitch.tv/deanme

I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks for checking out my build!

Hi, Nice build I am planning to build exactly like this one.

But one question. How did you fit the Asus GTX 1080 Ti with the Kraken X52? Did you put the Kraken fans outside the front dust filter or did you do it with a normal installation?

Can you please upload a picture with the front cover removed? Thanks. Because based on what I saw on the other builds most of them are using the EVGA Ti or MSI 1080 or so to fit with the Kraken X52 since they are shorter.

Please, I would like to know the same thing. I want to convert to this case with a strix 1080

Nice build, it looks great!

One thing though, how come you needs two hue+ ‘s ? Can’t you connect 5 aer fans via daisy chain on 1 node, and up to 4 led strips on the other node?

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe he thought each fan and each strip went into their own channel? OP, maybe you can return one.

I think he means the Hue+ vs the integrated case Smart Hub. The Hue+ has multiple RGB channels with support for daisy-chaining, but the Smart hub can only control the RGB strip. Hope that helps.

Yes, haha this is the issue. The integrated case Smart hub can only control either the strips or the fan, not both.

How is the clearance between the AIO and gpu?

  • 2 points

It's about 1cm lol. Still fits!

How did you fit that? Did you mount the fans at outer side of the front and radiator inside? can you upload some pics, please?!

Greetings ;-)

Thanks! I wasn't either until I built this lol I even bought the nanoleaf rhythms recently... it's an addiction!

Quick Question, you used the conductonaut as a thermal paste?

  • 1 point

No, I applied liquid metal. The AIO cooler comes with thermal paste.

I have the same case and the PSU and that is such a tight fit with the nzxt usb hub. Did you have any issues getting it all crammed in there? I always find it hard to keep my 1080 under 80c without the fans on an aggressive curve.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend this gpu with case. A 2 slot gpu would be fine but 2.5 is really pushing it haha. It was an adventure fitting all the cables and usb hub under the shroud, yeah lol

How the HECK did you fit that GPU in there? Do you know if the temps suffer because it is so close to the PSU shroud?

  • 2 points

Only God knows the answer. lol but yeah, it runs really hot. I would get a 2 slot gpu with this case.

How was the fit getting the gpu in there with the kraken? Any particular order you did it in or anything?

Im building a similar build to this, but im running the Gigabyte windforce 1080 (280mm length compared to yours being nearly 300mm if the asus website is right). Did you have to shave the shroud back or anything of that nature or just wedge it in there before putting the AIO with its fans in?

  • 1 point

I didn't shave the shroud or anything. But I think I put the GPU in first, and then the front panel cooler? I honestly don't remember, but it barely fits lol.

im surprised that fits a strix model in this case. I thought that, using a radiator in front, only fit a vga with 28cm lenght, and the strix (1070, 1070 ti, 1080, 1080 ti) has 30cm, according the Asus website... Good to know!

  • 2 points

Yeah, it's a tight fit lol. I would go with a smaller gpu for sure.

  • 1 point

do you think that a 1080 Strix fits well (even tighty), considering a radiator 240mm in front?

  • 1 point

If I just want to add two NZXT rgb extension do I have to buy the Hue + too? Does the rgb strip included in the case lets you connect more NZXT rgb strips?

I was considering putting a gtx 1080 ti FTW3 inside my build (we have quite similar builds) but since your card is 298mms and the ftw3 is 299.72, i dont reckon it will fit, will it?

Since I'm also using a kraken radiator in the front so clearance is as limited as in your case.

Does the Hue+ fit on the front SSD tray? Where did you mount yours?

Might be worth it to get an SFX power supply! the Corsair SF600 is plenty enough for a 1080ti and that extra room helps heaps with temps!

Hi

I have a Strix OC Vega 56, which shares the same dimension with the strix OC 1080ti. The only way for me to fit in a Kraken x52 along side the 2.5 slot Strix OC card was to mount the fans in the front, and radiator in the back of the mounting piece, and ditch the dust filter. Is that how you've mounted your X52? I can't see in the pictures.
