Description

The PeasantCrusher v2 is a revamped version of the original H440 PeasantCrusher. It is capable of moderate gaming on reasonable settings, and is used mainly for daily web browsing, photo and video editing, programming and compiling, and light gaming.

The PeasantCrusher v2 features an Intel i7-6700K, 32GB or DDR4 G.Skill RAM at 3200 MHz, and an Asus Z170 series motherboard with USB 3.1 ports. The fast processor, as well as the 32GB of RAM leave plenty of RAM left over to use as a RAM disk, to provide a speed boost when working with large video or image files. Additionally, the RX 470 graphics card also provides ample room to easily play most games on medium to high settings at or near 60 FPS.

Kudos on the build! Thanks for being part of #TEAMASUS. It is not clear based on your picture but ideally you want to connect the CPU fans directly to the CPU and CPU OPT headers. This way you can run Fan Xpert (within the UEFI or the OS ) and calibrate both the CPU fans and chassis fan all at one time to have control all of them at one time instead of having to switch between CAM and AiSuite.

Thanks! This is a common mistakes as most builders will default to the instructions in the CPU cooling solution. Many cooling products default to recommending their control option as motherboard fan control can vary. As such it works but in my opinion is not ideal especially on a board this type of board with very advanced fan controls.

Yeah, I have the Kraken hooked up to the CPU header. Nothing on the CPU_OPT though, as there is only one connector. With the H440, there actually are no fans to plug in, as they include a molex-powered fan hub to hook everything up to. Only thing I actually have hooked up to the motherboard is the pump for the Kraken.

Yes as I noted using the fan hub limits your ability for direct control and calibration. Ultimately the choice is up to you. I personally feel have direct control of all fans along with being able to control their response to different temp sources, ramp policies and overall operating speeds is the best way to have the acoustics and cooling managed most effectively.

Plays everything I've thrown at it so far on at least normal settings. It's not a great card, but it's good enough for the amount of gaming I do on it, and is easily upgradeable in the future.

Reason I have a 6700K in it, and that old of a card is because I use it mainly for CPU-intensive work, and some gaming on the side, not the other way around, which made the processor the bottleneck.

Gotta say, though, I'm loving it.

Nice name, but I doubt that the R7 250 will crush peasants, my 750 Ti performs better. A bit overkill on the RAM, but who honestly cares? +1 from me, good job.

maybe he plays minecraft with mods! it a very basic game but when you add mods you really need a lot of ram!

kinda nice build... i think theres to many colours, black, red, white, bleu...

and a skylake CPU with a R7 250 sounds so wrong :S

minecraft have modspack with more then 200 mods its really mindblower that simple game pushing stressing so much a desktop

Yeah, I agree with you on the card. It's not there best card out there by any means, but it can play everything I have at at least normal settings, and I don't do too much gaming, so it works for me for the time being.

The next upgrade for v3 will be a new card, but since I do mostly CPU-intensive stuff like video editing and programming and compiling, the CPU was the bottleneck in the original PeasantCrusher. I figured go big or go home, which is why I ended up with 32GB of RAM. CAS 14 was the lowest I could find at 3200 MHz of the G.Skill, and I was originally going to do 2x8GB for $104.99, and then in my Newegg cart, I decided on 2x16GB last minute. Works wonderfully though, because RAMdisks are awesome.

Ah ok, maybe consider a Quadro M6000, because why the **** not? lol In truth though, maybe have a look at a cheap Quadro, you never know, you might get into GPU-intensive tasks one day.

I agree with you there. The v1 was starting to bottleneck me on performance, but since I don't do too much gaming, I didn't need to upgrade the graphics card right away. It's good enough for what I use it for, and it'll be upgraded in the future, but with all of the programming and editing I do on this thing, the processor and RAM were the bottlenecks at that point.

I'm a bit confused about going for an i7-6700k but then going for an R7 250. A 370 or a GTX 950 would have been a bit better in my opinion, though upgrading your PSU should be top priority. (Never skimp out on that).

The R7 250 was a budget card I was recommended on Reddit over at /r/buildapc a while back, since at the time, I had a smaller budget of around $100 for the card. It handles what I need it to, since I don't game too much on it.

As for the PSU, it's not the best, and is a bit old. A bit of a backstory, I had all my parts shipped when I originally built this rig 5 years ago, and I didn't use PCPartPicker for whatever reason. Of course, this meant I had no formal part list. I knew to check for compatibility myself, so I didn't have a problem there, but somehow I completely overlooked the PSU, which meant that this one was a pickup that night from my local Staples back when they still sold graphics cards and PSUs (also where I got my old PNY GeForce 210 before I got the R7 250).

At the very least, the PSU tier lists that have been put out don't show that it really puts anything at risk as far as safety is concerned. At least not immediately, but it's definitely the very next upgrade that will go into it.

I would clean up the cables. A lot. get some leds in there and you would be good to go.

It's by no means a great card. but it's decent enough for what little gaming I do. Of course, it doesn't play everything on ultra settings, but graphics are still pretty good, and could at least match or beat most console setups.

The first upgrade for v3 will be a new card.

Haven't played GTA, but since I don't do too much gaming, I didn't need to upgrade the card right away. I do mostly programming and editing on it, so the RAM and processor were the bottlenecks before the upgrade.

It can play everything I have at at least normal or better settings though.

Yup. Right now, I'm sitting at 4.4 GHz on the 6700K, but when bench testing, I was able to somewhat safely go with 4.7 at 1.37 MHz, and things started getting a bit flaky at 4.8 with voltage at 1.4. Tweaking the voltage a bit higher didn't seem to do anything as far as stability for that, so I just backed off for now.

I was kind of in a hurry, since the hardware ID change forced me to do a reinstall of Win10 Pro, so I wanted to get that out of the way, and migrate files and reinstall apps. Now that I'm settled, though, I may take another crack at upping that OC pretty soon.
