Description

For Christmas, I got some upgrades for my PC. I upgraded it enough that I decided to submit it as a new build. See my old build for reviews of the parts I didn't upgrade. The monitor isn't new; I was using it with my build before the upgrades but wasn't sure what model it was, so I didn't add it.

The SSD is great. My boot-up time went from around a minute to around ten seconds. There are definitely faster SSDs than it (my friend has two 500GB 850 Evo's in RAID-0) but it's still a big improvement over a hard drive.

The motherboard's name is misleading: it has back panel USB3 ports, but no header. This has the unfortunate consequence of making one of my front-panel USB ports unavailable (the case has one USB3 and one USB2). However, the case does have a cable for the USB2 header, so I still have one front-panel USB port.

I wouldn't recommend the mouse for gaming. The scroll wheel is very sensitive, so it's hard to middle click without scrolling. And it's kinda small. But it gets the job done, and better than my old one (which was included in a $10 bundle pack).

The headset is great. Nothing more to say, really.

The RAM is cheap and works. I might've gotten a different model if I put together a part list right now, but I wanted to get the same kind as I had already.

The case is excellent value. The non-Elite model has only one fan, but this one has two (120mm in the back, 140mm at the top). It looks really nice, too, and the drive bays are tool-less. And they really are: you don't have to screw the drives into a sledge that you slide into a bay. Also, the fans are plugged into a Y-splitter, so they can both be plugged into my motherboard even though it only has one fan header. The one thing it's missing is 2.5" drive bays - I had to Velcro my SSD to the bottom.

The power supply is cheap and works. The box had branding information for graphics cards ("EVGA is #1 seller in US and UK of NVIDIA-based products"), which was funny.

Storage

This SSD is great. My boot-up time went from around a minute to around ten seconds. There are definitely faster SSDs than it (my friend has two 500GB 850 Evo's in RAID-0) but it's still a big improvement over a hard drive.

Monitor

It's a monitor. 1080p, 60Hz, 24", 5ms. Nothing special.

Mouse

I wouldn't recommend this mouse for gaming. The scroll wheel is very sensitive, so it's hard to middle click without scrolling. And it's kinda small. But it gets the job done, and better than my old one (which was included in a $10 bundle pack).

Headphones

It's fine. I can't speak for the audio quality, but it gets uncomfortable after long sessions.
