This build was kind of spur of the moment. I had planned on building a PC for a few weeks now, but was not sure how much I was willing to spend on a computer. Life happens and i lost my older brother to heroine overdose about 3 weeks ago after he was just released from prison (his birthday would have been yesterday at the age of 27). At a very young age he was always happy to introduce me to games that he was playing and show me the ropes. My brother never had the opportunity to build a PC, so I decided to dedicate this build to him and go all out.

This is my first build so I was nervous throughout the entire process. Originally I was going to pay someone to help me because of just how clueless I was. Then it hit me one night, I just needed to grow up and handle my own ****. I just watched a few builds on youtube, read, read and read some more about specs and threw caution into the wind I was confident now. I never knew I would find so much joy hiding wires, and finding the correct plug ins inside the manuals. All in all only took me about 11 hours, and i could not be happier.

Future upgrades I plan on replacing my kraken v62 fans with AER RGB 140mm fans, getting another SSD (probably not another m.2), custom sleeving for my motherboard power and graphics card

Also would like to thank this website and the entire community for supporting and just generally showing in experienced builders the way of ascension.

A very beautiful build and a great rig. Sorry to hear about your brother, may he rest in peace and that dog is bloody adorable.

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 4 points 18 months ago

That you for the kind words good sir.

Sorry for your loss bro. That must have been heavy. Back in April, I was wanting to upgrade the parts in my first PC, but I had just recently at the time got a job so I didn't have too much money to spend. Then my dog, who really meant the world to me (I also didn't have too many friends at the time because I was still sort of new in the area, so he about all I had), started showing major health issue and found out that he had cancer spread throughout his body so we put him down. I was really heart broken, and after about a week I decided to try focus on upgrading my PC to help me. When I was looking through parts I started feeling, not alright but better, and I started planning my next PC.

Those next few months was me buying one part at a time (to me purchasing the component and waiting for it to show up in the mail was one of the more exciting part of building a PC). I think I might have spent almost my entire summer savings on my PC, but too me it was worth it. It honestly wasn't really the better resolution, or faster frame rates that I made me want to build my computer, but just building it in general and seeing it come together bit by bit.

I was really glad to read how your managed to bring yourself to build your computer for your brother. I found it somewhat relatable, and remind me why I built my computer to begin with.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head, it was a great way to escape from it all for a bit. Im sorry for the loss of your k9 companion, I feel closer to them than most humans these days.

How’s that nzxt kraken x62 working out? And are the hue controllers needed to make those fans light up?

Nachtmsk 1 point 16 months ago

Yes The Hue+ Is needed to control the fans, and the RGB strips.

The best part was the dog :)

N0_N4M3 2 points 18 months ago

What a nice build, verry well put together! I'am sorry that your brother has died, and may he rest in piece <3 +1 for the Doggo ~-^~

TokyoRisingSun 2 points 18 months ago

Nice looking build. But I feel you should've gone with a 1440p screen at the very least with that build.

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

100% agree, im going to return the monitor and probably go with the Asus curved 34' at 1440p. Only problem is I ordered it online, going to have to give up my comp for a week or so.

Incredible job on this build, I love everything about it. Keep on keepin' on!

nabbers10 2 points 16 months ago

Enjoyed this build enough to change my new build and really like the look with the rgb fans enough to do that in my new build

lmhicks101 1 Build 2 points 14 months ago

Beautiful build! Great first build. Love the pup. I'm sorry about your brother. I live in West Virginia so I understand about the lose to drugs. I lost several friends to it.

+1 for the adorable creature...and the dog

mrsquid9 1 point 18 months ago

Lol great build but I have to ask why wireless mouse

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

I hate wired mouses, im not a huge competitive gamer I really dont notice a difference between the two.

mrsquid9 1 point 18 months ago

Everyone has there preference. But the razer mamba is a good wireless mouse.

AZAZELMILLZ 1 point 18 months ago

this is my favorite build so far it's crazy that im doing the same exact build with the same exact case and fans and everything only difference is i didnt have the power supply i have the sea sonic power supply

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 2 points 18 months ago

Ooooo i like those sea sonics!

AZAZELMILLZ 1 point 18 months ago

it will be nice if u take some more pics of the phanteks with the nzxt fans in the dark i really want to see how beautiful the fans shines off the mesh and front and how it shines inside of the case

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

I will once i get off work later today just for you!

AZAZELMILLZ 1 point 18 months ago

thanks fam

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

I must have mixed up a plug in my kraken rgb controller (i think), will look into it more later but here are some pics in the mean time. Also need to recenter the two front fans a bit better.

andrewkakrak 1 point 18 months ago

+1 because of great build and the doggo! :)

bowlaspaghetti 1 point 18 months ago

Very nice build. I'm sure your brother would have loved it. :)

SavageCactus 1 point 18 months ago

Rimbotic 1 point 18 months ago

Dog +1

Somerando 1 point 18 months ago

Awesome build, awesome dog. I did yourself a service by not using the Enthoo Evolv because of the crappy airflow the case provides

Killerbunny6666 1 point 17 months ago

+1 only because of the pup at the end.

vegaspimp22 3 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

could i make a simple suggestion? first, i like the setup, im jelly you got a dope mobo and the 8700k already. If you could figure out a way to make the LED strips at bottom and side a little less bright, and or, diffuse them so you dont see the dot reflections, from the LED. There's a few tricks to do this, from plastic diffusers to just angling the direction of the lights. I feel, (keep in mind this is just me, a nobody, and this is just my opinion only,) that the LED strips distract some from the beauty of your kick-*** components. I think having the RAM and MOBO lights the focal point from the side angle, and the fan lights the focal from the front angle. What do you think?

Victorips 1 point 17 months ago

Hi gratz for that amazing build i have a noob question , im building a rig with similar parts i have to connect the kraken x62 on ghe usb hub of course and Aio pump conector ? Or cpu Fan conector ? .. Thanks its my first build

klwashere1 1 point 17 months ago

cool build, though the cable management kinda got to me. +1

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

Will work on it, thx mate!

CSGOmustang 1 point 17 months ago

Sorry for your loss.

Happy you found gaming. I'm loving this site and community as well. Have really helped me out.

8700k/gtx 1080ti ftw3 hybrid gpu/maximus x hero

Looking for a case that provides room for top and front mount 360 radiator. This is it. How are you liking the airflow on the case? I'm thinking about pulling trigger on case right now.

How you like the air for cpu?

Great build!!

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 2 points 17 months ago

The case is phenominal I have zero complaints. Sadly I do not use this system as much as it deserves, cannot find any games to get into these days.

chino_tribo 2 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Cool build. I'm using the same case. Did you ever find it weird that the front fans can be mounted near the top or near the bottom, but with either option, something will impede the airflow (the top part of the front panel without grills or the power supply shroud)?

I see you mounted them towards the bottom in your build, probably so that the RGB fans can be displayed fully.

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

You are exactly right. I found it not only wierd but rather annoying, only complaint with this case. Still has amazing airflow, one of these days I will drill new holes to allign the fans better.

Houstoner submitter 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

The Asus board overclocks my 8700k by default to about 4.7ghz right out the gate. Idle will be about 28-30°C under full load it never gets above 55°C. GPU never goes over 70°C under full load. The NZXT fans provide fantastic airflow with little noise. Have not done any benchmarks or manual overclocking yet.

Xchapa 1 point 16 months ago

SwiftyTRE 1 point 13 months ago

Nice to see the Kraken x62 fits with G.Skill TridentZ on the MXH mobo. I've been reading how alot of people had trouble with the clearanace and resort to flipping the hose bracket, which in turn flips the NZXT logo upside down. But you managed to make it work! I already ordered all my parts and our builds are pretty similiar. So thanks for the reassurance.

iMoonTiger 1 point 13 months ago

Doggo = +1

Bloodjatt 1 point 9 months ago

I'm pretty much making the same build. But I really want to add a Blu Ray drive to it as well. Was there any room left? I feel like from the pics it doesn't look like there is.

nycflo718 1 point 8 months ago

Hows the water cooling system i plan on building something very similar, but im worried about the water cooling as i heard if it breaks its a nightmare, and the slight performance gain isnt worth the extra cash. Also, love the dog

Aqualady420 1 point 7 months ago

Beautiful build. Did you get the 5.25 bay to have room for the rad? As everyone has said, the dog at the end is just life! I'm also sorry about your brother's life. You know he's looking down on you. Keep him in your heart always!

HiroNewf 1 point 7 months ago

It is cheaper to get 2 packs of 2x8 for RAM than one pack of 4x8. idk why but it is.

mvickers89 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

I love this build, the story, the maturity, the growing. It's beautiful. All of it.
