So I figured my I-7 990X / X58 system was in need of an updating. So i started with a 8700K, then just ramped it up from there. All major components are watercooled by EKWB parts. Mono-block kit on the motherboard, both EVGA GTX 980's have full coverage blocks, the rad is a 480 PE, and the pump is a REVO D5 with a 250mm res. So far I am getting 250+ FPS at ready screen, 70 - 120 FPS in game while playing Mechwarrior Online at Very High settings. I'm happy with it.
Update Jan 25 2019:
System has been OC'd to 5.0 ghz on cpu idle temps in 25 - 30 C voltage 1.340 capped in bios Maybe need to push a bit more like 1.350 - 1.390 voltage range Havent de-lidded the cpu yet......still debating RAM OC'd to 3200 mhz System boots stable for months Getting ready to setup a triple 27" samsung panels Current 3dmark score on Fire Strike is 22097, Time Spy was 8977 (needs more tweaking) Testing the OC limits on the gpu's want to push memory clock a bit higher Need to order 4 separate 6 pin pci cables for both gpu's and stop using the combo cables (cablemod getting the call for that) Finally thinking of switching the gpu link block from series to parallel flow
