Description
This is an updated version of my original 2014 build: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/r4GG3C
I'll show off the before vs after pictures. I figured many on here would like that. I'm pretty proud of how this turned out, all things considered. On top of that, many parts I purchased over the years are going to be reused in my next build.
From the original build to this I did the following:
CPU:
Overclocked from 3.4 GHz to 4.4GHz
Swapped stock cooler for the Hyper 212 EVO.
GPU:
Swapped my GTX 780 for a GTX 980 Ti
Overclocked my GPU From stock speeds to +200MHz on the Core and +300MHz on the Clock.
Storage:
Swapped out my 1TB & 500GB HDD for a 6TB HDD.
Added a 1TB SSD.
Monitor:
Swapped my ASUS 1080p monitor for an ASUS 1440p monitor.
Keyboard:
Swapped my old HP keyboard for a Cooler Master mechanical keyboard.
Speakers:
Swapped my beloved-but-dying Harman Kardon for Bose speakers.
Part Reviews
CPU Cooler
One of the best coolers out there considering how cheap it is!
Storage
Blazing fast, plenty of space. This is what I use to store my games. Load times are great with this!
Storage
My Media drive. Sturdy and reliable.
Video Card
Amazing for 1080p, and great for 1440p 60Hz monitors, even in 2018. Not quite able to get above 90fps at 1440p for most games, so those with 144Hz monitors (such as myself) may wish to find something beefier.
Monitor
This monitor is absolutely beautiful. Amazing colors, a great resolution, low refresh rate, and at 144Hz, it makes games look incredible, provided you can hit 144fps!
Keyboard
My first mechanical keyboard. The keys are smooth and satisfying, and the RGB is an added bonus!
