This is an updated version of my original 2014 build: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/r4GG3C

I'll show off the before vs after pictures. I figured many on here would like that. I'm pretty proud of how this turned out, all things considered. On top of that, many parts I purchased over the years are going to be reused in my next build.

From the original build to this I did the following:

Overclocked from 3.4 GHz to 4.4GHz

Swapped stock cooler for the Hyper 212 EVO.

Swapped my GTX 780 for a GTX 980 Ti

Overclocked my GPU From stock speeds to +200MHz on the Core and +300MHz on the Clock.

Swapped out my 1TB & 500GB HDD for a 6TB HDD.

Added a 1TB SSD.

Swapped my ASUS 1080p monitor for an ASUS 1440p monitor.

Swapped my old HP keyboard for a Cooler Master mechanical keyboard.

Swapped my beloved-but-dying Harman Kardon for Bose speakers.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

One of the best coolers out there considering how cheap it is!

Blazing fast, plenty of space. This is what I use to store my games. Load times are great with this!

My Media drive. Sturdy and reliable.

Video Card

Amazing for 1080p, and great for 1440p 60Hz monitors, even in 2018. Not quite able to get above 90fps at 1440p for most games, so those with 144Hz monitors (such as myself) may wish to find something beefier.

This monitor is absolutely beautiful. Amazing colors, a great resolution, low refresh rate, and at 144Hz, it makes games look incredible, provided you can hit 144fps!

My first mechanical keyboard. The keys are smooth and satisfying, and the RGB is an added bonus!

You did a remarkable job in cleaning the dust out of that case!

Well, I can't speak for AMD processors, but I can certainly say I'm incredible happy with what an overclock did for my CPU! The only games that really still hurt it are games like AC: Origins. But otherwise, I'm really impressed!

What? Dude, you are so wrong LOL

Nope. Intel has been making better gaming chips for almost a decade. It's a fact that modern ryzen is just now making products that challenge Sandy bridge processors. I'm sorry you don't like facts.

Oooh spicey. Why not actually do some research instead of name calling? That way when someone tells you a fact, you won't look stupid when you question it.

Where tho

Either way, doesn't change the fact that a 2500k OC'd to 4.5 or higher (easily done) is neck and neck with modern Ryzen when they're max oc'd. The 3570k here is still better for gaming than modern Ryzen chips. It's literally a fact. I'm not sure why you're bringing your little R3 1200 into this.

From rags to riches in terms of dust ;)

Nice upgrades to a system that should keep up for some time still!
