Description

Note: Everything that says it was $0.00 is either because I was given it or I just don't remember the price as I've had some of these parts for some times now.

Hi everyone! This is another upgrade to my personal computer as it's always changing. Not long ago, my friend had asked me to build him a PC so I helped him out and showed him the parts that he should buy. One of which was the Ryzen 5 1600 as it's probably the best price to performance CPU you can buy right now. Sadly we had some issues with the motherboard and so we sent it back. Somehow my friend also bought a Z270 motherboard (I still have no idea how he manged to do that) so he just said screw it and wanted to go with an i5 7600k because he was just tired of all the issues. He let me keep the 1600 for helping him out even though we ran into some trouble.

Fast forward about a month later and I get in a car accident totaling my truck. I was fine but of course my car wasn't and so other friend of mine had to drive me to work and anywhere I needed to go. He really did help me out a lot. Because of this, I decided that I would try to see if I could use the Ryzen 5 in my personal rig because I noticed I had almost enough parts (minus an SSD) to build a computer. For all the help that my friend gave me, I decided that all of these extra parts I had would go to him as payment for all the help. He took my old i5 4670k, 16GB DDR3, Z97 motherboard, R9 390x, 1TB WD Black, EVGA 850w PSU, and my old case that I had laying around. Needless to say that he got pretty lucky that his friend happened to be a computer nerd.

As far as the Ryzen 5 1600 goes, I really love this thing! I was able to get this to 4GHz pretty easy on a relatively cheap motherboard. I will say that if you're planning on going with Ryzen, make sure to get high speed memory. I tried to cut corners by buying 2400MHz RAM and see if I could overclock it to at least 2933MHz but I was only able to get it to 2667MHz. That's pretty good still but for Ryzen it's not as good as I'd like. I think by now everyone knows how good the 1070 is. I was able to overclock this with a +109 on the base clock and a +335 on the memory clock. It really destroys games at 1440p.

Part Reviews

CPU

Super easy to overclock and probably the best bang for your buck.

CPU Cooler

This cooler keeps my overclocked Ryzen 5 1600 around 60 C without being loud.

Motherboard

Was easily able to overclock my 1600 up to 4GHz no problem. Even has lots of nice features too.

Video Card

Can easily run games at 1440p well above 60fps and stays pretty cool with an overclock.

Very nice build. What voltage do you have set on that 1600 at 4ghz?

Just make sure to get either the Gskill Flare X RAM or any of the RAM that's on the compatibility list for this board on MSI's website. I had no problems what so every with this board or any MSI boards in the past as this is my forth MSI board that's I've used. They have the best UEFI's in my opinion.

How about "Haunted Red" for the name? Your GPU is the ghost and everything else is "Red".
