Description

Work from home PC as well as Mine Craft, Steam, Origin etc...

Haven't built a PC in a while...I think this is only my 3rd build since a TX-97 mobo base back in the day.

Best piece of info I can provide from this build. The cooling fan back plate / mobo combo provided the only challenge. As you can see in the pics, I actually had to unscrew/remove some of the protective parts on the mobo. After the plate was secured on the backside, I was able to screw it all back together.

Also worth noting that one should definitely put in RAM before the cooling fan...tight fit!

Other than that, boots up fast and runs like a champ.

Thoroughly happy with all parts

Nice build, but man is that a big *** cooler, I knew it was large but dayuummm.

Dude for real! Last build I did on a P5GDC mobo base, the cooling fan was the size of a fist...now it's the size of a basketball!

Why didnt you just get the Dark Rock 3? A bit smaller, cheaper, looks as good and not a big performance difference

Honestly I don't build rigs that often and I wanted the most quiet, efficient fan possible.

Looks pretty good. I was lightly confused as to why this thing costed so much despite having a 970, but the other parts were worth the cash. The only thing I would've done differently is use an Intel extreme processor like the 5930k or 5820k. They have more PCI lanes, so more expandability, and they're going to give a more stable experience in cpu intensive titles like grand theft auto 5. Still, fantastic rig, hope you still enjoy it. I'm still stuck here with an Intel HD4000. Saving up though :)

+1 for a unique build!

5820k would have been a better cpu for the money. 6700k is way overpriced.

Agreed. Especially due to the 6700k's lack of PCI lanes when compared to the 5820k. The extra lanes allow for the installation of a PCI ssd, another gpu, wifi card, or whatever.

X99 motherboards are also about $100 more expensive.

Agreed...however I prolly won't build another until at least 2020 honestly...

You should keep the ssd as a boot drive and for games you want to run faster. But also you should add atleast a tb hdd like the Wd black or caviar blue

I actually have a 256 GB Trion Arc 100 acting as a boot drive and an old 80 GB Intel 520 for swap/temp/dumps. I then have a 512 GB 850 EVO for data and an external 1 TB WD Caviar HDD for backups.

Leaving the drive listed on this build because once it's a little more reasonable, I'll then make that my boot drive and expand my data drive with the ARC drive.

skylakes have had a problem with warping under oversized coolers, be careful

Really? Good to know. I suppose unexpected heat jumps would be a sign of the contact plate separating...

They usually only do that when I'm shipping due to the force of the cooler pulling it

Very nice build but how did you not go with the white version of the sabertooth?

The white one was not on the market when I actually bought the mobo in December....holly hell I wish I had known that was going to come out!

HI AJENT420!!!

I have a great question for you. I trying to find out it. How did you inserted that cpu cooler properly? I have this motherboard and im thinking to buy this dark rock pro 3. Does it actually fits there ? Do i need to dismount something?

THANKS A LOT!

So sorry I never replied to this!

So yes it was tricky, I had to unscrew one of the dust-cover plastic pieces from the back side of the mobo to get the mounting holes to line up...but it was possible and I've had no heating problems.

Nice Build! Were you able to get the Dark Rock Pro 3 to sit properly on the Mark 1 Mobo? I saw another build with just the Dark Rock 3 and they had to turn it sideways because it was hitting the top of the board. thanks in advance!

No problem at all. I've decided to go with the Sabertooth Z170 S and with the Cryorig R1. Check out my build here: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/b/vypG3C

Hi i just purchased the the same cpu cooler as yourself, also i have the same 170 mark 1 . this is cpu cooler is a bit tricky to install due to the backplate. I'd just like to know what were the protective parts you stated above that you removed im just confused were you talking about the foam on the backplate or something that is actually on the motherboard itself. Hopefully anyone is around to clear up this confusion thanks in advanced.
